PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 29, 2000

Microsoft's "Wireless dotCombat" event Tuesday, Oct. 3, offered in conjunction with the Eastern Technology Fund, will bring together high-tech business leaders, venture capitalists and other experts for a close look at how to achieve victory on the next big battleground in the New Economy: the wireless industry.

"This is a sequel to our June dotCombat event, and like any good sequel this one has even more action and excitement," said Brian Boruff, Greater Pennsylvania District General Manager for Microsoft Corp. "Since high-tech leaders shared their secrets of success at the June dotCombat, the battle for success in the New Economy has only intensified. Wireless dotCombat will arm start-ups, `bricks-and-mortar' companies and aspiring entrepreneurs with plenty of tools for success."

Featured speakers will include Harry Wallaesa, President and COO of Safeguard Scientifics, and Jonathan Oakes, CEO of ThinAir Apps, and Scott Woolley, editor of Forbes Magazine. Interactive panel discussions will cover how to enter the wireless industry, secure venture capital funding and develop a market strategy. Panelists will include top experts from firms such as Compaq, Nextell, Airput.com, Promotions.com, the Eastern Technology Fund, the Eastern Technology Council, the firm of Morgan Lewis & Bockius, Nokia Ventures, Comcast Interactive Capital, Internet Capital Group and InOvate Communications Group.

The event will be held at the Crystal Tea Room of the Wanamaker Building, Center City, Philadelphia on Oct. 3. Registration begins at 11 a.m., with a noon luncheon and keynote address. The panel discussions begin at 1:30 p.m. and continue through 6:30 p.m. At different times throughout the day, the following companies will host exhibits: Omicron, Eastern Technology Council, Silicon Philly and Compaq Computer Corporation. A cocktail reception follows from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
