SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 2000
Ligos Technology, a leading developer of software-based video encoding solutions, announced today its intent to support Intel's forthcoming Itanium(TM) processor. The Intel(R) Itanium processor offers increased levels of performance and scalability, as well as enhanced multimedia support.
"The Intel Itanium processor offers us the opportunity to expand beyond the desktop, and begin providing powerful and flexible software-based solutions for the creation and distribution of high-volumes of digital media content," said Peter Forman, president and CEO of Ligos Technology. "This is a logical extension of our GoMotion(TM) encoding and media management technologies that are redefining how digital video can be created and shared on the PC. Ligos recently demonstrated the first fully functional, software-only DV-to-MPEG real time transcoder at the Intel Developer's Forum in August.
"The Itanium processor, combined with our optimizations, has the potential to extend the volume and quality of media data that can be transcoded, enhanced and distributed," said Richard Cowart, chief technology officer of Ligos Technology. "We see enormous opportunities to scale our vision to the enterprise, broadcast and distribution network markets by moving our technologies to the Itanium processor platform."
"As a leader in multimedia technologies for the desktop, Ligos' products will be able to deliver increased performance with the Itanium processor-based platforms," said John C. Thomas, marketing manager, Intel Digital Media Solutions Division . "We look forward to working with Ligos to provide new tools and applications for the processing and management of video, whether it's on the workstation or across the network."
Ligos' GoMotion video compression software already enables top-selling desktop PC video products from ATI, Avid, 3dfx, Compaq, CSK Research, Dazzle, Gateway, Guillemot, Hauppauge, Matrox, MGI and Ulead.
About Ligos Technology
Headquartered in San Francisco, Ligos Technology is a leading worldwide provider of real-time software-only video encoding and decoding technology. Founded in 1997, Ligos developed the GoMotion codec, which has the ability to compress high-quality MPEG-2 video in real-time, using software only, on PCs with Intel Pentium(R) processors. GoMotion offers Ligos customers the distinct advantages of speed and affordability, when compared to more expensive hardware-based MPEG solutions.
