MOORESTOWN, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 10, 2001
Iridian Technologies, Inc. (Iridian), a leading biometrics company and exclusive developer of iris recognition technology, has appointed Frank J. Fitzsimmons as chief operating officer. The 13-year Dun & Bradstreet veteran will oversee global strategy, finance, marketing and product management as the company continues to expand both its product line and its business development operations in North America, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
"Frank Fitzsimmons' blue-chip background represents a tremendous addition to our company's management mix and promises a wealth of strategic insight as Iridian continues to address new markets," said Bill Voltmer, president and CEO of Iridian. "As we plan several product launches and expand our overseas ventures to meet the steady growth in demand for our authentication solutions, we are pleased to have someone with Frank's experience to keep our internal and external structures organized."
Prior to joining Iridian, Fitzsimmons served as senior vice president at Dun & Bradstreet (D&B), the $1.4 billion business information services company. During his years there, Fitzsimmons managed development and marketing personnel around the globe and helped drive their value-added services strategy and implementation. His accomplishments included launching D&B's entry into the supply chain segment, global marketing agreements with SAP, Oracle, Seibel, and SAS Institute, and launching D&B's initial web site in 1995. Fitzsimmons was integral in developing D&B's capabilities to integrate Dun & Bradstreet product components into e-marketplaces, partner applications and customer workflow, and he initiated worldwide distribution and product partnerships with major consulting firms.
"I am excited to be joining Iridian at such a key moment in its development," said Fitzsimmons. "The marketplace has recognized that security is a critical issue in the information technology arena. Furthermore, businesses recognize that biometrics are a real and viable solution for their authentication needs, and they are beginning to recognize that iris recognition technology is the best solution versus other possible choices."
Fitzsimmons continued, "It is my goal to help bring additional clarity to Iridian's vision for the future of iris recognition technology."
Fitzsimmons, of Bridgewater, NJ, serves as a director on the board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) -- the non-profit organization charged with administering the Internet's domain name system -- and is founding chairman of the Electronic Commerce Code Management Association, the non-profit entity created to manage the UN-established Standard Products and Services Code.
About Iris Recognition Technology
Iris recognition technology identifies people by the unique patterns of the iris -- the colored ring around the pupil of the eye. Iris recognition is the highest accuracy, single-factor identification method in the world, and can be used for physical access security, information security and in a variety of walk-up applications.
Pioneered by John Daugman, PhD of Cambridge University, England, iris recognition technology examines more than 240 degrees of freedom in the human iris to create the patented IrisCode(R) record, a 512-byte data template used to identify individuals and/or authenticate user privileges. Iris recognition technology is the most accurate, scalable, stable, fast and non-invasive biometric technology in the world.
Using Iridian's patented Private ID(TM) software and KnoWho(TM) authentication server, iris recognition devices capture images of the eye from a comfortable distance using standard video technology without bright lights or lasers -- requiring no contact, only cooperation, from its users. The combination of accuracy and ease of use gives iris recognition significant and measurable advantages over other biometrics like fingerprinting, voice recognition, facial recognition and retinal scans.
