WALTHAM, Mass.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--April 11, 2001
Terra Lycos (NASDAQ:TRLY), the leading global Internet network, today announced the following information from The Lycos 50(TM), the 50 most popular user searches for the week ending April 7, 2001. For a complete list of The Lycos 50(TM) and for in-depth text of The Lycos 50 Daily Report, go to http://50.lycos.com.
The Lycos 50(TM) Top 10 Search Terms for the Week Ending April 7, 2001 1) Dragonball 6) Pokemon 2) IRS 7) Tattoos 3) Britney Spears 8) The Masters 4) Easter 9) WWF 5) Napster 10) Taxes
Notes of Interest:
With tax day less than one week away, the IRS (#2) and taxes (#10) each rose four spots to hit the top 10 on this week's list. But tax interest wasn't strong enough to topple number one seated Dragonball. Meanwhile, searches for the prom peaked even higher than last year. Prom dresses were up to number 22 this week while prom hairstyles enter the list at number 35, their highest position ever on The Lycos 50. Web users were also intrigued by the recent national news event of the Chinese spy plane incident (#29) that appears to have brought military enthusiasts to the Web in search of information on the two planes involved. In fact, 73 percent of searches for the incident specified one of the two planes involved: either the America EP-3 Aries (38 percent) or the Chinese F-8 (35 percent).
Other Notes of Interest:
The Masters (#8), golf's most prestigious tourney, finished one spot higher on The Lycos 50 than last year with golf itself rising five spots to number 17. Searches for Masters winner Tiger Woods rose only six percent, keeping him far from making this week's list.
One to Watch:
Although she isn't on The Lycos 50, the newest pin-up queen scoring big hits with users is "Wild on E!" host Brooke Burke, whose searches were up 140 percent, thanks to a recent appearance in Playboy.
