Leading Semiconductor Foundry to Integrate Business Processes
Across Key Internal and Trading Partner Systems
United Microelectronics Corporation (NYSE:UMC), a world leading semiconductor foundry, Vitria (Nasdaq:VITR), a leading integration server provider, and Picoway, the Taiwan SI & reseller partner of Vitria, today announced a strategic relationship where UMC has selected Vitria as its application integration software and Picoway as its consulting service partner. UMC will use Vitria's integration server, BusinessWare, to integrate internal applications and external trading partner systems to provide end-to-end automation and integration of key strategic business processes with Picoway's professional consulting service.
"Integrating the many complex applications involved in UMC's enterprise operations is a necessary step in improving our overall cost and labor efficiency," said Robert Chin, Chief Information Officer at UMC. "After careful evaluation, Vitria and Picoway emerged as our partners due to their excellent track record and experience in enterprise systems. Vitria will automate business processes that drive cross-applications and cross-company information and transaction flows, greatly streamlining the process of point-to-point integration."
Compared with traditional workflow and middleware, the Vitria BusinessWare platform offers industry-leading business process management. Business process management (BPM) allows companies to automate internal and external processes for end-to-end efficiency and visibility for applications such as order management.
"High-tech manufacturing is a major strategic vertical for Vitria," said JoMei Chang, president and CEO of Vitria. "We are delighted to add one of the world's leading high-tech manufacturers to our rapidly growing international customer list." "We are excited to be working with Vitria to help deliver the BusinessWare solution, and for the opportunity to provide experienced & professional service to UMC," said James Chen, CEO of Picoway Technology. "This application will help UMC reduce order cycle time and improve enterprise-wide visibility, thereby enhancing overall customer service."
