Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 24, 2001

Trend Micro Inc. (Nasdaq:TMIC)(TSE:4704), a worldwide leader in network antivirus and Internet content security solutions, today announced that PC World Magazine named Trend Micro's PC-cillin(R) a "Must Have" antivirus utility for home and mobile PC users.

In a comparison of antivirus solutions that included Trend Micro's PC-cillin, Norton AntiVirus (Nasdaq:SYMC) and McAfee Virus-Scan (Nasdaq:NETA), editors said, "You can't go wrong with PC-cillin."

"PC-cillin has a more graphical and intuitive interface than Norton's, it's a bit faster at scanning your entire PC for viruses, and it can more easily be set to automatically download virus updates," wrote PC World editors when comparing Trend Micro's PC-cillin to Norton AntiVirus. "It also provides a basic password-protected, content-filtering mechanism for blocking URLs of Web sites that home users may consider dangerous or inappropriate for children."

"We are thrilled that PC-cillin has been endorsed by such a prestigious magazine," said Oscar Chang, senior vice president of product development for Trend Micro. "This recognition underscores Trend Micro's commitment to building software and providing outstanding customer service and support to protect Internet users against viruses and other malicious code."

The review also commented that no single package includes all of the tools users need for complete home PC security, but some companies offer bundles with many of the key elements. "The upcoming Trend Micro package -- which will feature our recommended antivirus utility (PC-cillin) and a basic version of our recommended firewall (Zone Labs' ZoneAlarm) -- comes the closest," PC World editors concluded. In their review, PC World editors suggested that the first step in securing a PC is to install a reliable antivirus program to defend against viruses and Trojan horses. Editors considered vendors whose products had been effective in past PC World tests and were independently certified by ICSA Labs for their reliability at catching viruses and repairing damaged files. The reviewers' evaluation criteria included the ease of installation, ease of use, and the ease of updating virus-signature files that protect against the latest malicious scripts.
