PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 25, 2001
Donald P. Fusilli, Jr., J.D., P.E., has been elected president, chief executive officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Michael Baker Corporation (AMEX:BKR), effective April 25, 2001.
Fusilli will succeed Richard L. Shaw, who is retiring as chief executive officer. Shaw will remain chairman of the Board as well as chairman of the Board's Executive Committee.
Fusilli, 49, has been president and chief operating officer of Baker since March 2000. Since that time, he has put in place a new management team and led the implementation of a restructuring of the company focused on its two core business segments of Engineering and Energy. This restructuring resulted in significant increases in operating income, margins and earnings for the company in 2000.
"It pleases me a great deal to pass the executive leadership of Baker over to Don," Shaw said. "Over the past year, he has exhibited a special ability to develop, and align the entire Baker organization along, a strategy for success. I am confident that the growth agenda he has initiated will benefit all of Baker's stakeholders."
Fusilli joined Baker in 1973 as an assistant engineer and worked on a variety of municipal projects. He was named assistant general counsel in 1979 after attaining his J.D. Degree from the Duquesne University School of Law, became general counsel in 1984 and corporate secretary in 1987. He moved to Houston in 1994 as executive vice president-administration of the Energy group, and was appointed executive vice president and general manager of Baker Energy in 1995.
In addition to his law degree, Fusilli holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Villanova University, and is a registered professional engineer. He also attended the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard University Business School.
He currently resides in Pittsburgh with his wife, Jennifer.
