SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 3, 2001
eTrue's Managed Biometric Service Provides Secure Web and Network
Access Through Microsoft's .NET Enterprise Server
eTrue, the first biometric authentication service that is outsourced over the Internet, today announced it has partnered with Microsoft to provide the first and only biometric logon service for secure Web and network access to Microsoft .NET Enterprise Server customers. Microsoft will initially showcase eTrue's service in its Microsoft Technology Center (MTC) - Boston facility and subsequently in MTCs around the world. Microsoft will also advise interested customers on how to implement eTrue's Internet-based user authentication service into their applications.
"The eTrue service has been chosen as the first biometric authentication service that we're showing our customers interested in using Microsoft .NET Enterprise Servers for their applications," said Frank Murphy, general manager of the E-Commerce Solutions Group at Microsoft Corporation. "The eTrue service offers customers quick, flexible and reliable deployment of secure authentication. In addition, the people-friendly interface is an example of Microsoft's intent to bring PC interfaces to a more human level."
The eTrue service authenticates users for both Web and local network logon through multiple biometrics, such as face and fingerprint verification, providing 100 percent user authentication. The award-winning eTrue service is managed around the clock, seven days a week by eTrue, and hosted by Exodus Communications.
"By building on Microsoft's .NET Enterprise Servers, eTrue is able to bring its message to a far wider audience," said David Teitelman, eTrue president and CEO. "The eTrue service provides an easy-to-use, highly reliable authentication solution that is completely managed by eTrue. This frees customers from administrative headaches, while their users never have to worry about lost, forgotten or stolen PINs, passwords or tokens. The user is the password."
eTrue's biometric logon service is especially well-suited to enterprises such as banks, securities brokers, insurance companies and government agencies that only want trusted users to access high value transactions and data. eTrue is also an ideal choice for hospitals and health insurers since federal regulations under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) require health care providers and insurers to put in place better secure access control and audit trails to maintain the privacy of patient records.
The eTrue service is easily installed within days, with no capital outlay needed. Video cameras and finger readers are provided at no additional charge to customers. eTrue manages all ID registration, authentication, exceptions, administration and upgrades for customers and a log of all transactions is kept for reports and future audits. The eTrue service scales to accommodate any number of users.
The security and reliability of biometric transactions and storage is assured through a hosted implementation that includes secure socket layer (SSL) Internet communication, encrypted transactions and secure, redundant servers with automatic fail-over and multi-layered firewalls, maintained by eTrue and its hosting partner, Exodus Communications. Exodus, with its three optical T3 lines and with battery and diesel backup power, has no single point of failure for eTrue's authentication transactions.
