DALLAS & SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 30, 2001
Luminant Worldwide Corporation (Nasdaq:LUMT), a provider of technology-enabled business solutions, and AvantGo, Inc. (Nasdaq:AVGO), the leading provider of mobile infrastructure software and services, today announced that they have formed an alliance and are delivering mobile and wireless applications to large enterprise organizations, including BP. With Luminant's assistance, BP recently deployed a mobile application on Microsoft Pocket PC-Powered handheld devices for use by field technicians, allowing them to collect data at well sites. The agreement enables Luminant to offer its customers an enhanced portfolio of mobile solutions, strengthening the bridge they provide between Internet, mobile and wireless technologies.
With Luminant's proven experience in delivering complex value-added solutions to its clients and AvantGo's leadership in providing wireless solutions to enterprises, the two companies are targeting Fortune 1000 companies interested in deploying best of breed mobile infrastructure solutions that increase the return on investment of existing IT resources and enhance the lifetime value of customer relationships. In particular, this alliance will bring new benefits in the instantaneous delivery of round-the-clock availability to both information and applications for utilities.
The two companies have already engaged at BP, successfully completing an initial project. "The project is expected to ultimately improve safety, increase productivity and reduce paperwork through one-time data capture," said BP's Bruce Policky. "One of the key success measures of this pilot project is user satisfaction, which is directly linked with taking work out of the system to improve staff productivity and effectiveness. As we move forward, further enhancements will be made, based on user feedback, to continue to strengthen delivery."
"We are delighted to be working with AvantGo to deliver real-time wireless solutions to our customers, particularly in the energy industry including upstream and downstream sectors, as well as new business areas including trading and customer outreach," said Luminant's Tim McCloskey, co-leader of Energy Solutions. "There is great potential for enterprises looking to enhance their services and activities by delivering existing applications to mobile and wireless devices at very little incremental cost."
AvantGo M-Business solutions provide immediate access to any Web-based data or corporate application -- such as CRM, business intelligence, sales force automation, supply chain management, patient care or field force automation applications. Users of mobile and wireless devices can access their corporate data either in real-time using a wireless connection, via their normal synchronization process with a desktop PC or via RIM Wireless Handhelds.
Mike Kritzman, vice president of channel sales for AvantGo, added, "Our focus is on helping businesses increase the return on their existing technology investments by improving productivity and operational efficiency through the use of wireless devices. Working with Luminant, we provide combined expertise that will help customers harness mobility faster and more cost effectively."
