New Product Allows Business Managers to Define, Analyze,

and Optimize Their Business Processes in Real-time

Vitria (Nasdaq:VITR) today announced Business Cockpit, a significant extension in Vitria's business process management leadership. Information once impossible for business managers to view in real-time -- process data -- is now available to business managers through an easy-to-use web-browser. Business Cockpit offers business users unparalleled real-time monitoring of business information that is managed by the BusinessWare integration server. Without any programming, they can view the processes they're responsible for running through simple point-and-click interfaces.

"Vitria is widely known for its vision and innovation in the integration software market. With Business Cockpit, we reset the bar higher once again. The Cockpit enables Business users to define key performance metrics, analyze these metrics and optimize these metrics in real-time," said JoMei Chang, president and chief executive officer of Vitria. "BusinessWare uniquely offers in a single product the entire lifecycle of business process management, including the visual feedback loop."

Users will be able to visualize and report on process data right from the source, automatically refreshed in real-time, with no intermediate delays or storage. Users will have the ability to personalize the display of the data, with no need for programming.

The real-world applications of Cockpit include:

-- Process-based strategic goals such as customer service metrics

-- Instantaneous workflow measurements - data bottlenecks, inventory stuck at
one point in the supply chain.

-- Enhanced exception management

-- Get real-time data on service-level agreement performance across partners.

-- Managers can drill down to see that individual orders that require
particular executive treatment receive it.

Business operators who have not been able to get answers to the most simple yet mission-critical questions to their business now have an easy tool to find the answers: How many of my orders are rejected due to bad credit? How long does it take widget X to get from order entry to shipment? What is my competitive vendor performance?

ANALYST, PORTAL AND EARLY CUSTOMER SUPPORT

Analyst Support

"With this announcement of Business Cockpit, Vitria expands beyond its traditional BPM (business process management) and application integration focus to extend its support for the emerging BAM (business activity monitoring) concept," said Roy Schulte, Research Fellow and Vice President, Gartner Research and Advisory Services.

BAM, which Gartner defines as the concept of providing real-time access to critical business performance indicators to improve the speed and effectiveness of business operations, stands to penetrate the market psyche to the same extent as customer relationship management, wireless and other world-moving concepts.

BAM is the real-time element of model-based decisions and draws on application integration's ability to build real-time application integration links among heterogeneous applications systems and on BPM's capacity to combine process status with real-time analysis. By 2004, inenterprises where faster reaction is key to operational effectiveness, BAM will be one of the top four initiatives driving IT investment and strategy (0.8 probability).

Early Customer Support

"From the initial presentation of Business Cockpit concept at the Vitria User's Conference in Dallas this year, we immediately arranged a meeting with Vitria to offer ourselves as a beta site for Cockpit and to work with Vitria to assist in additional user requirements definition for the product," said William Eason, senior consultant of Bell Canada. "With our current use of BusinessWare for broadband service delivery, along with the usual application integration, we see the potential for Cockpit bringing web accessible, real time graphical & detail information on service order load and status to our key operations groups. Cockpit has the promise to be an excellent addition to our corporate metrics and measures tools for our Broadband and IP services."

Portal Vendor Support

"In today's fast-changing business environment business agility is more crucial than ever before. Vitria Business Cockpit will provide Epicentric customers with instant access to a rich source of business process data and performance metrics that will enable them to better, more informed business decisions faster than ever before," said David Achim, VP, Corporate Business Development for Epicentric.

"Business Cockpit is going to allow our DataChannel users to add an important window into their enterprise views -- process-level views, along with their data-level views. For example, this will enable business managers to view not just data about system uptime, but whether the process of a service-level agreement is being upheld," said Steve Jones VP Corporate Development, DataChannel, Inc.
