QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced that Unicom Horizon Mobile Communications Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Unicom -- the second largest wireless service provider in China with more than 30 million subscribers -- has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with QUALCOMM, which indicates Unicom Horizon's plan to incorporate services, running on QUALCOMM's Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless(TM) (BREW(TM)) applications platform, into its subscriber plans.

The BREW platform is a thin, standardized applications execution environment introduced by QUALCOMM to allow rapid development of a wide variety of applications that users will be able to download from carrier networks over the air onto any BREW-enabled phone.

Unicom Horizon plans to make BREW-enabled services available early next year, offering subscribers a selection of wireless applications including banking, weather and news services, gaming, chat and e-commerce, that they will be able to download and access quickly and easily over the air on their handsets.
