TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 20, 2001
Powerful XML-Driven Software Enables Developers to Flow
and Exchange Web-based Data
DataMirror Corporation (Nasdaq: DMCX; TSE: DMC), a leading provider of enterprise application integration and resiliency solutions, today announced a new version of DB/XML Vision software that supports Sun Microsystems' Forte(TM) for Java(TM) integrated development environment (IDE). The new version of the software, which enables the flow and exchange of data to and from the Web using XML and text formats, will facilitate the development of Web-based enterprise applications such as corporate portals, B2B systems, enterprise database integration and electronic data interchange (EDI). Today's announcement is part of DataMirror's broad strategy to incorporate XML-based enterprise application integration features into the company's award-winning data integration and resiliency product family.
"The Forte for Java product is an ideal development environment for enterprise application developers," said Nigel Stokes, Chairman, President and CEO, DataMirror Corporation. "The combination of our powerful, cost-effective technologies and Sun's Forte for Java IDE will facilitate the rapid development of reliable, scalable XML-based applications. As such, we expect our products to be more widely used by corporations that require sophisticated, Web-based solutions for their enterprise systems."
"XML and J2EE(TM) technology go hand-in-hand to address the most ambitious enterprise applications. DataMirror's Java(TM) technology-based, XML-driven products are a natural extension to the Forte for Java environment," says David Taber, Director of Portal and Business Development, Forte Tools, Sun Microsystems. "Now developers using the Forte for Java IDE will be able to easily leverage DataMirror DB/XML Vision's data transformation capabilities when their applications require a sophisticated XML integration solution."
Forte for Java, release 2.0 is a comprehensive IDE developers can use to compile, edit, and debug Java-based applications. DB/XML Vision is a cost-effective, scaled-down version of DataMirror's DB/XML Transform software designed for simple database-to-XML conversion projects. It operates in any J2SE(TM) or J2EE environment that supports version Java 1.2 or greater. In addition, DataMirror's XML products provide APIs for the Java programming language, enabling easy and seamless integration with other software products and enterprise systems.
New features and enhancements in DB/XML Vision Version 2.1
include:
-- Broad Support for Industry Standards - Includes standards-based
support for the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) XML Schema 1.0 and
DTD. DB/XML Vision will automatically generate XML Schema
definition (XSD) files for all XML output.
-- Tree-Structured Query Enhancements - Hierarchical data in XML,
generated by DataMirror's patented Tree-Structured Query
Technology, provides a database snapshot which allows for easy
conversion/mapping from database fields to XML elements and vice
versa. The advanced Tree-Structured Query Wizard can automatically
generate valid XSD files according to specifications. Descriptive
mapping comments can also be attached to an element/attribute in
Tree-Structured Query projects to enhance ease-of-implementation
and administration, especially in B2B environments.
-- Database Metadata Browser Enhancements - Enhancements have been
made to DB/XML Vision's database metadata browser, including
enhancements to the user interface, metadata reporting and support
for various vendor specific data types.
Pricing and Availability
DB/XML Vision is available for download free-of-charge for a 14-day evaluation period at http://www.datamirror.com/resourcecenter. The evaluation edition does not enable users to save custom mappings or alter XML document element names. Customers can enable these features by licensing the DB/XML Vision product for $99.95 USD. The fully functional edition enables users to save and reload tree-structured query definitions, and customize object mapping between database and XML documents. DB/XML Transform is an advanced solution that has functions and features beyond DB/XML Vision and allows XML to XML, XML to database, and XML to text translation and vice-versa. It also allows for complex mapping and data transformations. For more details, call your DataMirror representative at 1-800-362-5955 or register for a trial copy at http://www.datamirror.com.
