IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 24, 2001
Kofax and London-based InfoCAP have released PowerFilm for Ascent Capture, an optional software module which integrates Kodak microfilm scanners with the widely deployed Ascent Capture production document and data capture software platform from Kofax.
PowerFilm for Ascent Capture enables local and remote workers to automatically migrate images from microfilm conversion systems to all major enterprise document and content management back-end systems. Ascent Capture enhances images, automatically or manually indexes images, validates index data, then releases images and data to one or more back-end systems via its broad library of custom release modules.
Supported systems include Documentum 4i, FileNET Panagon, IBM Content Manager, OpenText Live Link, Optika Accorde, Hummingbird, KeyFile and dozens more.
Ascent Capture has previously focused on the scanning and processing of paper documents and forms in production environments and in geographically distributed applications. The newest version, Ascent Capture 5, adds e-document and XML capture capabilities as well as front-end integration support with enterprise applications.
PowerFilm for Ascent Capture exports an XML data stream containing images and metadata to the new XML Auto-Import Controller of Ascent Capture 5, the latest element of the product's open architecture. Ascent Capture also employs an XML backbone, which enables development and easy integration of custom scanning, indexing and validation modules within the native Ascent Capture workflow.
The XML stream includes data that permits Ascent Capture to automatically define and execute desired processing on each batch of images.
"Now, companies can manage their microfilm utilizing the same strategy and business processes employed for paper and e-content without custom programming," said David Oldfield, Ascent Capture product manager at Kofax.
"We consider Kofax to be the leading player in the electronic document capture marketplace," said David Dawes, InfoCAP's managing director. "PowerFilm for Ascent Capture takes full advantage of the new XML Auto-Import capability and gives our users end-to-end connectivity with industry-leading EDMS, ECM and workflow systems."
Ascent Capture Internet Server Version 5
Kofax introduced distributed document capture in 1999 and PowerFilm for Ascent Capture is fully compatible with distributed configurations.
For example, remote sites may convert microfilm, enhance images, perform QC and then transmit securely over intranet or Internet links to a central site for optional further processing and release. Such an approach is ideal for organizations where microfilm archives are located at one site in a multi-location enterprise.
