Conexant Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CNXT), a worldwide leader in semiconductor system solutions for communications applications, today announced that Compaq Computer Corp. (NYSE:CPQ) has integrated Conexant's V.90 dial-up modem technology into the Compaq iPAQ(TM) Music Center enabling users to connect and access the Internet, to identify CDs automatically, as well as to connect to the OpenGlobe(TM) Entertainment Services to learn more about artists and to purchase additional music.
With the Compaq iPAQ, consumers can store, compile and catalog more than 400 CDs or 5,000 songs or listen to streaming radio stations worldwide. It is also compatible with existing entertainment components, such as a TV and stereo.

IDC, a market research firm, predicts that worldwide shipments of compressed audio players will reach 25.9 million units by 2005. "IDC believes that the market will expand significantly beyond the current set of products," said Susan Kevorkian, analyst with IDC's Consumer Devices research practice.
