LEXINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 28, 2001

Profitable Internet software company to donate up to $25,000 based on

number of people downloading evaluation products from its Web site

Ipswitch, Inc., a maker of leading Internet software, announced today that it intends to donate up to $25,000 to nationally recognized non-profit organizations next month based on the number of people downloading evaluation versions of products from its Web site.

Ipswitch's "Download-a-thon," which was kicked off today on Ipswitch's corporate Web site and will extend into late September, is a unique Web event that will influence how the company donates to charitable causes. Organizations that will benefit from Ipswitch's philanthropic event include the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, the Child Welfare League of America and Oxfam America. The "Download-a-thon" is an example of Ipswitch's caused-based philanthropic program where a certain percentage of profits are donated to charity if specific program and/or revenue goals are met. The program was created with the help of corporate philanthropic consultant Responsible World of Cambridge.

"Ipswitch has an extremely strong commitment to the community and we are using our Web site as a forum to extend our charitable giving program," said Roger Greene, president and founder of Ipswitch. "While others in the technology sector have been forced to cut back, we have continued to grow and generate profits. We want to leverage our success to make a positive impact on communities that have contributed to that success."

Amounts to be donated are dependent upon meeting a pre-set number of product evaluation downloads from Ipswitch's site. A minimum of $5,000 will be donated, up to a total of $25,000 if download goals are realized. No purchase is necessary. To participate in the 'Download-a-thon," please visit www.ipswitch.com.
