CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 30, 2001

SIGS/101 Conferences today announced James Gosling, Chief Scientist, Java Software VP and Fellow at Sun Microsystems, will be the featured keynote speaker at SIGS Conference for Java Development on Monday, Oct. 29.

The conference will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel, San Jose, Calif., Oct. 28 - 31, 2001. (www.javadevcon.com) Delegates will be provided with the best and latest in Java training, a source for real-world examples, an exhibit floor with the latest tools and services, and an ideal location in the heart of Silicon Valley.

James Gosling received a BSC in computer science from the University of Calgary, Canada in 1977. He received a Ph.D. in computer science from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1983. The title of his thesis was "The Algebraic Manipulation of Constraints."

He is currently a vice president and Fellow at Sun Microsystems. He has built satellite data acquisition systems, a multiprocessor version of Unix, several compilers, mail systems and window managers. He has also built a WYSIWYG text editor, a constraint-based drawing editor, and a text editor called "Emacs" for Unix systems. At Sun his early activity was as lead engineer of the NeWS window system. He did the original design of the Java programming language and implemented its original compiler and virtual machine.

"It's hard to think of a person that has had more influence on where computing is heading," said Dwight Deugo, Technical Chair, SIGS Conference for Java Development. "A true innovator and the father of Java, there is no one better than James Gosling to provide us with an outlook for the future of technology and Java."

Sun Microsystems will also be on hand to present exclusively their Java University(SM) Program -- Code Level Training From the Source of Java(TM) Technology. Full-day intensive conference tutorials, designed to accelerate learning, will give delegates the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and work through problems, receive code-level training and enhance their expertise of Java(TM) technology.

Conference Sessions are organized into six tracks. The 1-1/2 or 2 hour sessions are designed to give intense, condensed instruction in their subject areas. Delegates can follow one track throughout the conference for the most in-depth learning, or pick and choose among the tracks. Tracks include Core Java Programming, Java & XML, J2EE, J2ME & Wireless Technologies, Java Programming for the 21st Century and Java Architecture & Design.

Delegates will hear industry luminaries discuss how Java technology is shaping the future of web development while learning directly from an unmatched faculty, all prepared to share their knowledge and insights. Keynote addresses from Sun Microsystems and more are scheduled for the conference.

In addition, expert panels will debate various hot topics. Delegates will learn from the experts who have already taught thousands to become better software developers.

An Exhibit Hall, featuring a dynamic display showcasing the latest Java products and services by leading vendors, will be featured at the conference from Oct. 29 - 30. Delegates will also be able to attend Developer Workshops, vendor-sponsored workshops which are intensive learning sessions featuring a specific Java tool.

Now in its sixth year, SIGS Conference for Java Development is a learning experience unlike any other. More than 10,000 developers and programmers from across the U.S. and around the world have benefited from attending SIGS/101 Conferences.
