ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 6, 2001

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, in conjunction with the Electric Vehicle Club of the South, will host a transportation and energy-efficient event on August 7, 2001.

The event, "HOT AUGUST TRANSPORTATION AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY FAIR" will be held from 10:00 a.m to 2:00 p.m. at the Sam Nunn Atlanta Federal Center in downtown Atlanta (61 Forsyth Street, S.W., adjacent to the MARTA Five-Points Station).

Although major advances have been made since Congress passed the Clean Air Act, many people are still not breathing easier and high levels of smog and ozone are common summer occurrences in Atlanta and in many of the nation's other large cites. Since cars generate more than half of the total ozone-forming pollutants in the Atlanta region, emissions from these sources have a major effect on the region's air quality. The "HOT AUGUST TRANSPORTATION AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY FAIR," will focus on the importance and effects that our everyday choices have on air quality in Atlanta.

The "HOT AUGUST TRANSPORTATION AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY FAIR" will be the host to twenty exhibitors including: BP, Andersen Windows, the Department of Energy, ENERGY STAR, Georgia Power Company and the Kilowatt Korner, TRANE, Atlanta Gas & Light, MARTA, Clean Cities, Washington Mutual, and the Clean Air Campaign. Also, there will be many alternative-fueled and hybrid vehicles displayed on the plaza including: the Corbin Sparrow, EV-1, the Ford Think Neighbor, Toyota Prius, Honda Insight, a propane F-150 and the GEM. Additionally, several smaller electric bikes and scooters will be on display under the big tent on the plaza.

For further information about the fair, contact Danny Orlando, EPA's Energy Star Coordinator at 404-562-9087 or Lynorae Benjamin, EPA's Alternative Fuels contact at 404-562-9040.
