OAKLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 9, 2001
Versata Inc. (Nasdaq:VATA), a leading provider of software and services that automate the business logic and processes that power enterprise and e-business applications, today announced that Matthew Pryor, senior product architect for Versata has been named to the first board of directors of the Business Process Management Initiative (BPMI.org), an international non-profit organization.
BPMI.org, founded in August 2000, seeks to promote and develop the use of electronic business process management by establishing universal standards for process design, deployment, execution, maintenance and optimization. The organization develops open specifications that allow companies to share critical business documents and information electronically, both within the enterprise as well as with business partners via the Internet.
The newly appointed board will own the charter of the organization, define the group's goals, supervise the development of specifications, oversee finances and create white papers.
"Business Process Management is about extracting value from information technology to gain a competitive advantage," said Matthew Pryor, senior product architect, Versata, Inc. "The goal of BPMI.org is to develop practical and timely standards to ensure that organizations take advantage of process management as well as to understand and articulate its relevance to other important industry standards. As a board member I look forward to helping achieve these goals." Pryor brings over 12 years of software development, architecture and company executive experience to the BPMI board. He is Versata's primary liaison with industry standards bodies.
"Business processes are a key pieces of the overall business logic that organizations need to capture. We are very happy that Matthew will be taking a leadership role in driving the emerging standards. Versata is committed to promoting industry standards and actively participates in the evolution of standards such as UDDI, J2EE and UML," said Val Huber, Chief Technology Office for Versata.
BPMI.org currently is developing the Business Process Modeling Language (BPML), a technological language for the modeling of business processes, and the Business Process Query Language (BPQL), a management interface to a business process management infrastructure. BPMI is supported by several leading companies including HP, BEA and IBM.
Versata utilizes business rules to power enterprise and e-business applications. Versata automation products consist of the Versata Interaction Server, which defines and executes business process rules, and the Versata Logic Server, which defines and executes business logic rules. The Versata Interaction Server makes it easier and less expensive to embed process and workflow into enterprise applications. Whether deployed as a standalone process engine or embedded into existing applications, the Versata Interaction Server maximizes business execution by automating processes, facilitating on-the-fly process changes, exposing and involving external customers in workflow processes, and delivering the right work to the right place at the right time.
