Online Channel Content Management Solutions
Digital Island, Inc., a Cable & Wireless company (NYSE:CWP), today introduced a new addition to its 2Way Web Services(TM) offerings called Intelligent Traffic Management (ITM), a Web-based global load balancing and traffic management solution within the 2Manage(TM) family of services that offers unprecedented levels of IP traffic management and control over geographically distributed Web services and applications.
Digital Island's new ITM service is able to provide performance, availability and scalability to Web services via exceptional disaster recovery and load management capabilities. These are the biggest challenges to cost, time to market, and success in deploying Web services.
The ITM service uses patent pending Adaptive Traffic Control (ATC) technology within Digital Island's Footprint(R) Service Enabling Technology layer that are the foundation for 2Way Web Services offerings. Other Footprint(R) Service Enabling Technologies include patent and patent pending transport, content and application management, control and peering technologies that are uniquely suited to support Web services without the need for re-engineering or expensive high availability hardware.
According to recent studies, e-tailers could miss out on as much as $10 billion this holiday season because of Web site usability defects that prevent shoppers from buying online. Improving usability can raise sales and keep customers coming back, according to GartnerG2 Research Group(1). Digital Island's new service enables customers to increase revenue through more completed transactions and lower operating costs through reduced bandwidth needs and lower cost of ownership. In addition, the new service helps retain customers through a more reliable, high performance online experience.
Digital Island's 2Manage ITM service is a unique Web-based solution optimized for transactions and e-business applications, such as sales, order tracking, eCRM, workforce optimization, and supply chain management. Its Web-based user interface allows customers to quickly and easily control, manage and monitor global traffic distribution and load between sites and across the enterprise.
Trapezo, a full-service provider of Channel Content Management solutions, selected Digital Island's 2Manage ITM service for failover, disaster recovery and load balancing to support its software for syndicating and integrating content and applications across online channels. Trapezo's software is used by Dell, CNET and INGRAM MICRO to distribute and integrate dynamic content to channels through content aggregation, partner management, content delivery, optimization and performance analysis.
"Trapezo selected Digital Island's traffic management service because it offered a reliable and flexible solution that enabled us to guarantee 99.9% uptime to our customers," said Robert Poon, senior vice president of engineering and system operations at Trapezo. "In addition, the ITM service from Digital Island provides us with failover and disaster recovery features enabling us to increase the reliability of our Web applications while providing uninterrupted service to our customers."
Using patented and patent-pending technology, the ITM service ensures optimum performance and Web site availability through the ability to configure and distribute traffic between subscriber data centers. Content is delivered to the best server based on a number of subscriber criteria, including load-share, geographic awareness and server availability. All of these features can be reconfigured within minutes through an easy to use Web based interface.
As a Web-based service, the ITM service does not require installation of proprietary hardware or software at any customer site, which significantly reduces cost of ownership and maintenance costs. ITM only requires simple changes to a company's Domain Name System (DNS) set-up, and can be turned-up in a matter of minutes with no disruption to operations and workflow. The 2Manage ITM service is a fully managed service with Digital Island providing comprehensive customer support, eliminating operational cost associated with proprietary equipment, as well as maintaining staff to manage enterprise-wide traffic management on a global scale.
"The addition of ITM to our 2Way Web Services offerings further strengthens our ability to enable companies to provide end-viewers with the best and most reliable online experience and guarantee successful e-business transactions," said Dave Farber, chief scientist, Digital Island. "ITM builds on our many years of experience developing advanced technologies for content delivery and next generation Web services."
ITM is available today and can be deployed as a stand-alone 2Manage service or in conjunction with other Digital Island's 2Way Web Services including 2Deliver and 2Transact services, or any other third party service provider.
