WOODLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 11, 2001
Captus Networks, the leader in protecting networks from denial of service (DoS) attacks, today announced it has been named in the Computerworld Top 100 Emerging Companies for 2002. Captus' CaptIO(TM) network security devices -- that automatically and immediately stop DoS attacks -- earned honors in the Security Products and Services category.
"Today's emerging companies face a cooling economy and an uphill battle in 2002," said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of Computerworld. "The Computerworld Top 100 Emerging Companies for 2002 -- those most capable of transforming adversity into opportunity through innovation -- will be the ones to watch."
The denial of service (DoS) attacks that Captus products defend against have increased in frequency and complexity over recent months. A new breed of attack, such as Nimda, Code Red, Code Blue -- and most recently, Goner -- combines a "virus" and "worm" that allows remote users to hijack systems for use in later malicious activity. Captus Networks' inline technology protects companies from inbound floods of traffic as well as from outbound attacks launched from infected "zombie" computers, taken over by others, in their own networks.
"In light of increasing Internet security threats, companies are extremely concerned about protecting their corporate brands and revenue potential," said Richard G. Helgeson, president and CEO of Captus Networks. "We are honored to receive this award from Computerworld, a leading information source for the IT professional."
