MASSILLON, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 20, 2001
Recently, several hundred students throughout Ohio helped raise $25,000 for families of fallen NY Firefighters and EMTs by selling hundreds of tubs of fresh cookie dough.
Following the 9-11 WTC attack, Savory Foods, the company that supplies cookie dough to organizations for fundraising, pledged a portion of the company's profits to the NY Firefighters 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund. The 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund is the official fund of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF).
"I think it was important for many students, who watched this tragic event play out on the nightly news, to feel that they could help in some way," said Gary Toth, Savory's Chief Operating Officer.
"After the terrorist attack, we decided the best way we could help was to pledge a portion of our profits to the NY fire fighters families. We asked all of the groups and organizations planning to sell Savory cookie dough if they wanted to participate in a donation program. We were overwhelmed by the positive response," added Toth.
Savory pledged a dime for the first quarter million tubs of cookie dough sold by participating organizations, which included schools and non-profits in four mid-western states. In addition, the schools generated funds for school projects through the cookie dough sales.
At 10 a.m. today, Savory officials and members of the Parent Teacher Group and students from Sauder Elementary School in Massillon, Ohio will make a ceremonial check presentation to firefighters from the Jackson Township Fire Department symbolizing the efforts of all Ohio students who helped raise funds for the NY 9-11 Fire Fighters Disaster Relief Fund. In addition to presenting the check to the firefighters, the students will be serving freshly baked cookies.
Savory Foods is a premier supplier of fresh cookie dough to organizations for fundraising. The company also sells corporate gifts and gourmet bundt cakes through its Penn Street Bakery subsidiary.
