DETAILS: Founded in 1991 after the July 30, 1990 unsolved murder
of its namesake, then 34-year-old vice president of national
advertising sales for All American Television (now Pearson) at the
corner of Greenwich and Jane Streets in Manhattan, The John A.
Reisenbach Foundation is supported by members of New York's media,
advertising, and TV communities. The foundation raises money for
programs to improve the quality of life in New York. It has given $3
million to programs such as:
The John A. Reisenbach Charter School in Harlem. New York's first
non-profit charter school.
Cab Watch, a program to put 911-only wireless phones in medallion
taxis.
The John A. Reisenbach Neighborhood Safety Project helps block
associations and tenant groups "take back the streets" from criminal
elements.
John A. Reisenbach Awards given to outstanding New York City
Police Department employees.
John Jay College of Criminal Justice Masters Scholarships &
Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships.
"Criminal Justice Close-Up," the nation's only regularly scheduled
TV program devoted to issues in law enforcement.
