by assigning specific ring tones to specific callers
TeleCorp PCS, Inc. (Nasdaq: TLCP), AT&T Wireless' largest affiliate, today announced it is offering an exciting new service: the ability to download customized, licensed ring tones and icons.
Select SunCom customers will now be able download ring tones of the latest popular music to their wireless handsets. TeleCorp will offer a wide variety of ring tones to appeal to its entire SunCom customer base. From country to salsa, from rap to classical, the ring tones will feature such leading artists such as Garth Brooks, Ricky Martin, Shaggy, Britney Spears, The Beatles and Jimmy Buffet.
These customers will also be able to personalize their service with icons, high-resolution graphics that appear on a wireless handset's display area. The extensive inventory includes such icons as the U.S. Flag, Santa Claus, Golden Gate Bridge and basic images like eyeballs and hearts. These icons can be used separately or as a complement to a ring tone. For example, a subscriber could program his handset to ring "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," accompanied by an image of a baseball bat whenever a sports-loving friend calls. This feature gives these SunCom customers a powerful and fun way to personalize their service.
There are two easy and convenient ways for SunCom subscribers to browse, select and download ring tones and icons. The first is through the SunCom website at www.suncom1.com. The second way is through a mobile-originated SMS text message. A user simply taps in a code, sends it off and then receives a return SMS message with the specified ring tone and/or icon.
"SunCom has always been about simplicity and personal expression. By offering these ring tones and graphics, we are providing a fun and easy way for our subscribers to make their service unique. Such personalization not only creates more revenue opportunities for us, but it also enhances customer loyalty - a very compelling combination," said Hyuk Byun, vice president of product development for TeleCorp PCS, Inc. "Ring tones and icons are especially appealing to our younger customers, giving us an advantage in attracting this important customer base."
SunCom subscribers can access ring tones on Nokia 5165, 3360 and 8260 phones. In addition, icons are available on the Nokia 8260. Customers can sign up for SunCom services by calling 1-800-SunCom-1or by visiting www.suncom1.com on the web. Ring tone samples may be downloaded for free, by logging onto the SunCom website.
