WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 19, 2001
Winter Corporation announced today that two Oracle Corp. customers have won Grand Prizes in its Database Scalability Program 2000. Korea Telecom and Samsung SDS, both headquartered in South Korea, topped all other candidates in the Unix-based online transaction processing system (OLTP) categories for database data size, number of rows/records and peak workload. Korea Telecom's Oracle8i(TM) solution led all other databases with 2,258 GB of data and 5,866 million rows/records of transaction characteristics while Samsung's Oracle8i solution attained the highest peak workload with 2,500 transactions per second.
As a leading center of expertise in database scalability for e-business, enterprise applications and business intelligence, Winter Corporation provides research, consulting, and education services that help users and vendors define their database solutions, architect their implementations, and manage their scalability issues. The company focuses on database technology near, at, and beyond the frontier of scalability. To that end, Winter Corporation's Database Scalability Program 2000 analyzes the characteristics of the world's largest databases and examines databases supporting the world's largest workloads. These vast data repositories anchor e-commerce, business intelligence, supply-chain management, customer relationship management, resource management, and other business-critical applications.
Oracle Corp., the largest provider of software for e-business, is the global leader in supplying information management and Internet business applications software. With annual revenues of more than $11 billion, the company offers its database, application server, tools and application products, along with related consulting, education, and support services, in more than 145 countries around the world.
"Oracle is delighted to highlight the accomplishments of our customers, particularly those of Korea Telecom and Samsung, in this year's Winter Corp. Database Scalability Program," said Chuck Rozwat, executive vice president of Server Technologies, Oracle Corp. "As the e-business market leader, Oracle is committed to developing database systems that surpass the ever-increasing demands of e-business."
Ju Sang Baek, specialist at Samsung, also expressed his company's appreciation at receiving a Grand Prize. "In today's e-business environment, database scalability is a vital issue to everybody involved in developing, working with and relying on information management systems," he said. "Managing over 2,200 GB of data is not a simple task. Oracle backs us with efficient database management and capacity planning, and their proactive support and consulting services provide us with database availability around the clock."
In addition to Oracle, other sponsors of Database Scalability Program 2000 include EMC Corporation, Hewlett-Packard Company, IBM Corporation, Informix Software, Microsoft Corporation, NCR Corporation, NetGenesis Corporation, Sun Microsystems, Inc., and Sybase, Inc.
In announcing the leading entrants, Richard Winter, president of Winter Corporation, noted that every year, business success depends on managing larger data volumes, users populations, and database workloads. "By using the architectures, products, and practices best suited to their needs," he said, "Database Scalability Program winners are leading us into a new era of scalable business solutions. Our program applauds both the users and the vendors responsible for these ground-breaking implementations."
Looking ahead to the 2001 program, Winter added:
"We'll investigate Web-based services such as application service providers, and offer a way to measure the return on investment of these projects. As businesses seek to turn knowledge of customers' Web behavior into competitive advantage," he continued, "we'll explore CRM [customer relationship management] and e-CRM more thoroughly." Data collection for the 2001 program is scheduled to begin in the fall.
The names of all program winners will be announced at an awards presentation in March. For more information, contact Winter Corporation by e-mail at info@wintercorp.com, on the World Wide Web at www.wintercorp.com, or by calling (617) 695-1800.
