OEONE
OEone Corporation, a leading information appliance software developer, and EarthLink (NASDAQ:ELNK), the United States' second largest Internet service provider, today announced a joint agreement to fully integrate EarthLink's award-winning Internet access software with OEone's Internet computer operating environment platform.
OEone's software platform is comprised of the Linux operating system, browser desktop and personal applications, providing a comprehensive software platform capable of powering high-end Internet computers. The combination sets a new benchmark in software integration, performance and ease of use.
"It's exciting to work with EarthLink, a company that has a reputation for service and a forward-looking vision for the Internet," said Mr. Seste Dell'Aera, OEone's vice president of sales & marketing. "Teaming up with EarthLink gives the owners of OEone-powered devices nationwide access to EarthLink's award-winning Internet services."
"OEone's Internet appliances allow us to serve EarthLink subscribers beyond the PC and the standard PC operating system," said John Kortier, vice president of channel sales at EarthLink. "EarthLink subscribers are among the most savvy Internet users and just the type to desire access to multiple Internet enabled devices in the home. OEone also offers a viable alternative to consumers who want Internet access without purchasing a PC."
The OEone-enabled devices are designed to be accessible to first-time computer users and will also be a welcome second or third computer in homes with existing PCs. The platform was developed using the open-source software model, in conjunction with a fixed hardware platform, to overcome compatibility issues that today's desktop computers have in operating efficiently, effectively and reliably. The OEone operating environment uses the robust and scaleable Linux operating system as its main pillar. Re-engineering the desktop using the Netscape 6 browser technology offers increased functionality supporting all of the standard Internet applications. A comprehensive suite of personal productivity applications, personalized content and ASP services rounds out the offering.
