IBM Netfinity and eServer(1) Datacenter Customers Are Assured
Pre-tested, Three-way Compatibility Between IBM Datacenter 8500R Configuration, Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Operating System and
CommVault Galaxy Storage Management Suite
CommVault Systems Inc.(R), a leading provider of enterprise-class data and storage management software solutions, today announced that its CommVault(R) Galaxy(TM) Enterprise 2000 data and storage management software suite configured with IBM (R) Netfinity (R) 8500R servers has been validated on the Microsoft (R) Windows (R) 2000 Datacenter operating system.
CommVault Galaxy is the first backup and recovery product to meet the stringent requirements on an IBM Netfinity 8500R configuration, including operation in a four node clustered environment. This validation was secured as part of CommVault's participation in Microsoft's Datacenter Solution Program, comprised of the operating system, applications and services and certified hardware.
Formal testing was conducted at the Microsoft Compatibility Lab in Redmond, WA, with cooperative efforts from IBM and Microsoft. This validation ensures that IBM customers requiring first-class data and storage management can now enjoy smooth interoperability with the CommVault Galaxy data and storage management suite. At the same time, this testing means that the CommVault Galaxy suite meets the validation requirements for IBM's ClusterProven (TM) Program, a testing program for high availability that ensures pre-tested interoperability in IBM clustered server environments.
The combination of the Galaxy Enterprise 2000 software's logical-view interface for managing Windows-based and heterogeneous data and IBM's Datacenter Solution is especially attractive for data-intensive enterprises requiring pre-tested, seamless component compatibility and functionality for their Windows 2000 Datacenter deployments.
IBM's Datacenter Solution is based on the award-winning Netfinity 8500R server, Fibre Channel SAN storage products, Microsoft's Windows 2000 Datacenter Server operating system, and a full slate of enterprise service and support products. Because the CommVault Galaxy software is "Certified for Windows 2000" by Microsoft, this ensures a smooth transition for organizations migrating to the Datacenter server environment. By eliminating the guesswork traditionally associated with multi-product integration and deployment, the certified combination of CommVault and IBM solutions allows administrators to confidently deploy complementary technologies that greatly enhance data access and backup and recovery manageability on the advanced Windows 2000 Datacenter servers.
"Validation of our CommVault Galaxy data and storage management suite within IBM's Datacenter Solution Program demonstrates our ability to keep pace with the rapid advancements of Microsoft's operating systems as well as IBM's Intel(R) product set," said Dave West, vice president business development, CommVault Systems. "By working closely with Microsoft and IBM, CommVault offers advanced, interoperable storage management solutions that fully optimize Datacenter environments."
"The validation of CommVault's next-generation CommVault Galaxy Enterprise 2000 storage management software suite enhances the ability for customers to have a robust and reliable data protection for their Datacenter deployments," said Nancy Williams, Director, IBM eServer xSeries solutions marketing. "CommVault Galaxy's application-specific functionality and overall scalability make it an ideal storage management solution for customer environments."
CommVault Galaxy is the only enterprise class data protection product developed in the last ten years, and the only one specifically designed to provide heterogeneous storage and data management from a Windows platform. The software solution is engineered to provide easy access to application data, manage scale and diversity in enterprise environments, ensure data integrity and eliminate soft data loss. This is especially important with the increasing popularity of new data-centric computing models such as Network Attached Storage (NAS) and Storage Area Networks (SAN).
Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter server is the most powerful and functional server and operating system ever developed by Microsoft. Scaling to support greater memory, faster processing and more node clustering than other Windows 2000 server software, Windows 2000 Datacenter Server is for those who need greater processing requirements, better scalability and the highest levels of uptime for their mission-critical environments. As a large-scale line-of-business solution, Windows 2000 Datacenter provides superior availability, reliability, scalability and serviceability to today's data-intensive enterprises.
Pricing and Availability
The CommVault Galaxy data and storage management suite is available immediately. Pricing is based on number of nodes in the Datacenter configuration.
