BOISE, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 26, 2001
Micron Technology, Inc., (NYSE:MU) today announced a prototype of Copperhead (MT8LLN21PADF-A), its chipset utilizing DDR SDRAM memory technology and supporting the newest Intel(R) Pentium(R) III processors for the entry-level server market.
This chipset is the result of an agreement Micron and Intel signed in late 2000.
"Copperhead is designed to support Intel's next-generation processor and meet the needs of today's most demanding users," said Jeff Mailloux, Micron Technology, Inc.'s Director of Computing and Consumer. "Copperhead demonstrates Micron's commitment to provide our customers with resources to develop system-level products taking advantage of emerging DRAM technologies. As part of this agreement, we worked with Intel to incorporate new features and technologies into our product to benefit our customers."
Micron's Copperhead (MT8LLN21PADF-A) chipset supports up to 8GB of DDR 200 or 266 SDRAM memory and features a PCI-X bus as well as a 64-bit PCI 2.2 bus. Copperhead (MT8LLN21PADF-A) targets the entry-level server space. Micron expects availability of customer samples in the first half of calendar 2001 with production to follow later in the year. Micron is demonstrating a Copperhead-based system this week at the Intel Developer Forum Conference.
"Copperhead is another example of Micron's ability to enable memory technology," said Dean Klein, Micron Technology, Inc.'s Vice-President of Integrated Technology Group. "We are continuously identifying technology capabilities to enable our customers with the various tools and resources needed to develop system-level products utilizing Micron's memory architectures."
Micron's Integrated Technology Group continues to develop chipset technology to support Micron's memory technology. Micron also developed the Samurai DDR chipset, the first chipset with the capability to support a DDR SDRAM platform.
Micron Technology, Inc., and its subsidiaries manufacture and market DRAMs, very fast SRAMs, Flash memory, other semiconductor components, memory modules, and personal computer systems. Micron's common stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the symbol MU. To learn more about Micron Technology, Inc., visit its web site at www.micron.com.
