Companies Will be Able to Leverage Their Investment in Legacy
Packaging Technologies With Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI)
Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq: "MSFT") and Strategis (Purchase, NY) are joining forces to offer rapid and reliable Legacy Application Remediation services for clients with an existing investment in legacy packaging technologies.
This offering, developed jointly with Microsoft preferred partner Strategis, will help companies seeking to update their applications to take advantage of the immediate benefits of Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) as well as the added functionality of Application Installation and Management in the Active Directory through Group Policy. Driving this offering is the new packaging/installation technology called the Microsoft Windows Installer Service.

"Because this is a new and exciting offering, our intention is to educate our customers about the benefits of MSI combined with Windows 2000," says Kim Daly, General Manager for Microsoft New York Metro. "We chose to partner with Strategis because of their expert knowledge with packaging and Windows 2000. They are already engaged with several enterprise customers on MSI strategy and execution."
MSI was released as a part of Office 2000, yet users are still trying to understand how to utilize it to receive the greatest benefit. For example, features such as Install on Demand, Rollback, and Self-Healing will allow technical staff and users to customize and better manage installations.
"Strategis has developed an offering that includes both onsite and offsite remediation options for customers with diverse needs," says Craig Alberino, Director of Business Development for Strategis. "The offsite lab provides greater flexibility and added value to the offering because we can shorten engagement time and control costs for our customers."
