ViryaNet's Service Hub and Networks and Wireless Devices
ViryaNet (NASDAQ: VRYA), a provider of wireless workforce management solutions for field service communities, today announced that it has joined the SyncML initiative. SyncML is a cross-industry initiative formed to create a new synchronization protocol that allows continuous, uninterrupted access to updated information with any application and device. By joining SyncML, ViryaNet hopes to offer its customers a common language for synchronizing all devices and applications over any network, streamlining processes and increasing efficiency.
"We believe that our support of SyncML establishes us as a forerunner in the development of standards for data synchronization in the wireless industry," said Ron Ben-Natan, CTO, ViryaNet. "As the wireless market explodes, it is important to develop standards that will allow all market players and their customers to communicate efficiently. We believe SyncML will become a common language that will link data anytime, anywhere, regardless of the device used. We think it is vital for us to adopt industry standards that will significantly improve our product offering."
Currently, many geographical areas in the world have imperfect wireless coverage. Therefore, ViryaNet believes that it is important to support the ability to synchronize networked data with any mobile device and synchronize a mobile device with any networked data - even when applications support on-line and real-time access. Mobile workforces using laptops, handheld computers, mobile phones, and PDAs, rely on synchronization to maintain updated information so that they may continue working even when no wireless path exists to the host.
ViryaNet's Service Hub enables service organizations to schedule and dispatch field service technicians, and allows field engineers to access relevant information regarding the service they are providing wirelessly. By conforming to SyncML's industry standard platform, Service Hub will allow communication with a wider variety of applications, platforms and devices.
ViryaNet is part of a roster of 590 companies supporting SyncML, which has been organized to provide the framework for developing interoperable data synchronization products. The SyncML initiative plans to publish the specification of the format/protocol, architectural specifications, interface specifications, and the source code for reference implementation of the data synchronization framework. Vendors like ViryaNet will then be able to use this framework to provide SyncML protocol support within their products.
