NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 18, 2001
Henry Kaufman, one of America's most respected and influential economic and financial analysts of the past 50 years, has endowed an academic chair in business and financial history at the Sy Syms School of Business, Yeshiva University's undergraduate college of business.
Dr. Norman Lamm, University president, and Dr. Harold Nierenberg, dean of the school, made the announcement of the Henry Kaufman Chair in Business and Financial History.
"This philanthropic act is especially significant," Dr. Lamm said, "because of Dr. Kaufman's stature and distinguished career in the economic and financial community, and his generous response to the University's effort to provide its students with a superb teaching faculty. The ability of the Sy Syms School, and our other undergraduate schools, to reach the highest possible academic levels is inextricably linked to the nurturing and professional growth of the faculty."
"Our academic enhancements have chiefly been designed to expand and strengthen concentrations in accounting, finance, management information systems, and marketing," added Dr. Harold Nierenberg. "Dr. Kaufman's gift will add depth to the curriculum by enabling us to offer business and financial history courses that will broaden the knowledge and perspective of our students."
At Henry Kaufman & Company, Inc., which he serves as president, Dr. Kaufman's experience and reputation on Wall Street for accurate economic and financial analysis have made him one of the most sought-after consultants in the industry.
Early in his career, Dr. Kaufman joined the nascent research team at Salomon Brothers which he subsequently directed and oversaw its development into four departments. He is credited with making it the largest and most influential research team on "the Street." A Wall Street "guru" who often moved markets with his forecasts, he served as chief economist of Salomon, Managing Director and Member of the Executive Committee of Salomon prior to launching his firm.
The Sy Syms School of Business was founded in 1987 through the leadership and support of national clothier, civic leader and philanthropist, Sy Syms. Over the past few years, the School has established an outstanding record in each of its areas of concentration. In this period, the School has grown three-fold and its alumni are now making their mark in prestigious firms in the business world.
Now in its 114th year, Yeshiva University is the oldest and most comprehensive educational institution under Jewish auspices in America. It is a unique, vital resource for the Jewish community and for society as a whole, embodying the centuries-old commitment of the Jewish people to learning, continuity, and the advancement of human knowledge.
