WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 22, 2001
VBrick Systems, Inc. an innovator in low-cost TV-quality video networking products, announced today that the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police selected the VBrick Model 3200 network video appliance to deliver real-time security video monitoring at Saturday's Presidential Inauguration. Live, full-motion video and audio was transported in real-time from the various FBI Command and Control locations to the Metropolitan Police stations where it was recorded and viewed.

"VBrick is honored to provide the real-time security video feeds used to protect President Bush and the many distinguished guests and attendees at the Inauguration. The selection by the FBI for this critical application is indicative of the quality and reliability of the VBrick network video appliance," said Rich Mavrogeanes, president, chairman and founder of VBrick Systems, Inc.
The FBI used the latest technology available for this event. The VBrick network appliances were connected to video cameras at strategic locations. The VBricks converted the live video and audio to high-quality compressed digital video. The FBI used DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) modems to transport the video over traditional copper telephone wires to the police stations. At the stations, the video and audio was viewed on standard PCs and TV monitors. The Metropolitan police used VBrick's StreamPlayerII(TM) software to view the output from each camera simultaneously. The StreamPlayerII software was also used to record the video and audio to disk for archiving and later analysis.
"This application was a perfect fit for VBricks," said Mr. Mavrogeanes. "The compact size and simple set-up, combined with the television-quality video allowed the FBI to deploy the VBricks quickly. In addition, the StreamPlayerII software permitted any PC at the police stations to be an instant surveillance tool."
VBrick video network appliances deliver TV-quality video and CD-quality audio in both one-way and two-way interactive network "televisioning." Unlike ISDN-class video-conferencing systems, VBricks utilize the Moving Pictures Expert's Group (MPEG) video standards, the same as used by broadcasters, to deliver the highest quality video at extremely cost-effective prices.
