William McDonough, internationally acclaimed architect and designer, was named "Hero of the Planet" by TIME and "Designer of the Year" by Interiors magazine. President Clinton awarded McDonough the Presidential Award for Sustainable Development, the nation's highest environmental honor, and his architectural firm twice won Business Week/Architectural Record awards for corporate design profitability and effectiveness.
Speaking before two World Economic Forum panels, McDonough will first offer his innovative plan for business to learn and profit from nature's productive and regenerative relationships, while addressing organizational and operational challenges.
In his second address, he will discuss challenges for architects and designers in creating buildings and products to meet business needs and environmental concerns, while adding long-term value through design.
The World Economic Forum in Davos annually brings together top business officials with government and civic leaders from around the globe to discuss key economic, political, social and environmental issues affecting the world's future.

William McDonough addresses issues presented by concerns over global warming in a creative manner and champions a rational, earth-friendly next industrial revolution. It is one that offers a legacy of ecological and economic benefits to replace the first industrial revolution's burgeoning levels of product waste and pollution.
It charts a course for business toward new markets and profitability and away from the need for governmental regulation by modeling designs on the effectiveness of nature.
McDonough is founding principal of two internationally acclaimed design firms, William McDonough Partners (www.mcdonough.com) architects and McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (www.mbdc.com) with partner German chemist Michael Braungart.
Among his corporate clients are Ford Motor Company Nike, BASF, The Gap, Herman Miller, Steelcase, S.C. Johnson, IBM and Palm Inc. He teaches architecture and business at the University of Virginia and Cornell University.
