The Computer Systems Group (CSG) of Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. (TAIS) Monday announced the Satellite Pro 4600 Series with integrated Wi-Fi (802.11b) capability.
Toshiba's wireless notebook enables users to have instant, high-speed access to an Ethernet network without the hassle of cords or cabling. Additionally, without the constraints of phone jacks or Ethernet cables, customers have the freedom to stay connected whether roaming a business campus, conference room, home office, airport or visiting a hotel.
"With today's ever-increasing mobile work force, it is essential to equip employees with the necessary tools to work remotely. As a leader in wireless technology, Toshiba is committed to making wireless work environments a reality for our customers," said Steve Andler, vice president, marketing, Toshiba CSG.
Desktop-like Performance and the Freedom to Connect
The Satellite Pro 4600 Series offers desktop replacement performance with expanded multimedia and productivity capabilities. Through its built-in modem, Ethernet port and integrated Toshiba DVD/CD-RW multi-functional drive, the notebook computer allows users to view DVD movies, create audio/video CDs, or back up data further enhancing the experience.
Furthermore, Toshiba leads the industry as the first PC manufacturer to offer the DVD/CD-RW multi-functional drive across multiple platforms throughout its various notebook product lines.
The unit also provides customers five different means to connect and remain flexible depending on the user's situation. Whether it's via an Ethernet LAN, Wi-Fi access point, modem, fast IR, or Toshiba's optional Bluetooth(TM) PC Card, the Satellite Pro 4600 Series offers the ultimate in connectivity options.
Additionally, with the unit's integrated Wi-Fi antenna, 10/100 Ethernet port and V.90 56K modem, users don't have to sacrifice a PC Card slot to have simultaneous access to these modes of communication.
Backward-Compatible Docking Solutions Protect Investment
A complete computing solution for the office, the Satellite Pro 4600 Series offers two optional port replicators which are backward compatible with previous Satellite Pro models dating back to the Satellite 4100. These complete computing solutions enhance productivity while protecting initial investment.
Priced at $199, the Satellite port replicator provides one-touch connection to a full array of desktop peripherals including printers, monitors, keyboards and external speakers. The NoteDock IV, which adds the flexibility of a Type III PC Card slot, is perfect for customers in a networked environment and is priced at $329.
