BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 29, 2001
Carrier Access Corporation (Nasdaq:CACS):
Lightship Also Utilizes Carrier Access' Adit 600 Customer Service
Terminal in this Distributed Voice and Data Digital Loop Carrier
System
Carrier Access Corporation (Nasdaq:CACS), a leading provider of broadband access equipment to service providers, announced today that Lightship Telecom will use Carrier's Access Navigator and the Adit 600 Customer Service Terminal (CST) to enable cost-effective deployment and provisioning of voice, data and high-speed Internet services.
Lightship Telecom, a leading Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) operating in northeastern and mid-Atlantic states, will be the first CLEC to collocate the Access Navigator in Verizon Communications central offices. Verizon reviewed the Access Navigator for National Equipment Building Standards (NEBS) compliance, a precursor for collocation in its central offices.
Jeff Koester, chief operating officer of Lightship, stated, "With Access Navigator in Verizon central offices and Adit 600 CSTs in customers' sites, we can aggregate traffic at the collocation facility and deploy services to new customers faster and at a much lower cost than with alternative solutions."
Robert Lencke, director of network development at Lightship said: "The Access Navigator gives us some big advantages. We can divide voice and data to accommodate demand, lower our network costs, and deploy services more rapidly - all while maintaining the service reliability our customers expect."
"Central Office (CO) space is an extremely valuable asset for all carriers today," said Roger Koenig, chief executive officer of Carrier Access. "By using our Access Navigator solution, Lightship is able to incrementally add T1 customer access lines while taking up a minimum of CO space."
Lightship Telecom is deploying the Access Navigator in conjunction with Carrier Access' Adit 600 broadband Customer Service Terminals. The Access Navigator/Adit 600 combination provides a full suite of business services including flow-through provisioning and remote management capabilities. This makes it possible for Lightship to reduce truck rolls while improving voice and data service availability at customer locations.
