WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 29, 2001
O'Melveny & Myers Attorney John Rogovin Represents One of the Smaller Carriers Adversely Impacted by the Behind-the-Scenes Dominance
of Large Companies
Issue:
Despite regulations introduced last year by the Federal Communications Commission to help the smaller telecommunications companies compete by giving them preference in an auction for a slice of airwaves, big cellular carriers still dominated this year's auction.
Many of the largest bidders classified as small companies actually had the backing of cellular giants such as AT&T Wireless and Cingular.
Now that the bidding is over, the FCC plans to examine the ownership structure of all bidding companies to ensure they have not violated the regulations.

John Rogovin of O'Melveny & Myers is available to provide insight and commentary as the FCC begins its examination.
Mr. Rogovin represents Allegheny Communications Inc., a small company that pulled out of its bid to win a license in San Antonio after higher bids were filed. Closer examination revealed that the small companies entering the higher bids have the financial backing of industry giants such as AT&T Wireless and Cingular.
