NEW ORLEANS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 30, 2001
Harris Corporation, a leading provider of intelligent security software solutions today announced that its Security Threat Avoidance Technology (STAT)(R) Scanner product was named the best Windows NT(R) assessment tool on the market in an analysis of seven commercially available network scanners. The independent analysis was performed by e-fense, Inc., a leading network security consulting firm based in Alexandria, Virginia. The announcement was made during the SANS Security New Orleans 2001 conference at the New Orleans Marriott in New Orleans, Louisiana.
STAT(R) Scanner is a comprehensive vulnerability assessment tool for Windows NT and Windows 2000(R) that enables users to identify and eliminate network security deficiencies that may allow hacker intrusions.
"The Harris STAT family is the most comprehensive, easy-to-use and accurate product that we tested," said Drew Fahey, computer security and investigations specialist for e-fense. "It allows the network analyst to save time and money, and we believe there is no better NT(R) assessment tool on the market today."
The e-fense analysis, which was commissioned by Harris, evaluated Harris' STAT(R) Scanner 3.0, along with AXENT NetRecon 3.0.6, eEye Retina Network Security Scanner 2.0, ISS Internet Scanner 6, Kane Security Analyst 4.61, Network Associates' Cyber Cop 5.5, and Webtrends Security Analyzer 3.0.
The e-fense evaluation focused on 10 categories: ease of installation, ease of use, performance, assessment capability, accuracy of product, interface design, speed, web site, help file, and documentation. e-fense rated STAT Scanner at or near the top of the performance range for each category, with top ratings for performance, accuracy, ease of use and ease of installation. (The complete e-fense analysis can be obtained online at www.STATonline.com).
STAT Scanner allows network administrators to scan and correct over 1,000 critical security vulnerabilities in a single machine or across an entire network with a simple mouse click. By providing a monthly update of the vulnerability database from the STAT web site, Scanner enables its users to apply the latest information available to contend with aggressive and ever-changing hacker methods.
"This tool is extremely easy to use and performs its job appreciably faster than its competitors," said Eric Smith, computer security and investigations specialist for e-fense. "In addition, it has the best and most accurate explanation of vulnerabilities that we have ever seen and the most timely updates of any product, which are easily accessible at the STAT web site."
"This study validates Harris' leadership role in providing value-added solutions for today's network security challenges," said Bob Henry, president, Harris Government Communications Systems Division (GCSD). "Today's threat of losses from Internet and computer network intrusions makes it imperative to protect information system assets with the best tools available, such as those offered by our STAT product family."
Using technology originally developed by Harris Corporation for the U.S. Department of Defense, Scanner was launched into the commercial marketplace in 1998. Scanner was recently enhanced to provide security scanning capability for foreign-language versions of Windows NT and Windows 2000.
Harris in November introduced two additions to the STAT product family: STAT(R) Analyzer and STAT(R) Designer. Analyzer 2.0, released today, uses a suite of vulnerability and risk assessment tools to analyze various aspects of a networked computing system. It then employs a unique risk fusion technology, called FuzzyFusion(TM), to develop a system-level assessment of a network's security posture relative to its security policy or requirements. Designer provides system architects and security engineers with the capability to define and optimize the security architecture of a computing system.
The Harris STAT product family features the industry's first intelligent, enterprise-wide security management software with multi-vendor, `best-of-breed' product integration providing design, analysis, and test solutions that address the security life-cycle requirements of computer networks.
