AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 31, 2001
Tivoli(R) Systems Inc. today announced an agreement with Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) to deliver storage management solutions for Enterprise customers. Tivoli storage solutions liberate business critical networks from intensive backup and recovery tasks, freeing IT resources for business growth activities.
Tivoli Storage Manager will provide backup, recovery and management of data for the Compaq StorageWorks Enterprise Backup Solution(tm), to leverage the connectivity and performance benefits of a storage area network (SAN), delivering customers more robust storage management solutions. This news is a further step to solidifying the storage alliance that was announced on July 6, 2000, between Tivoli parent IBM and Compaq. Together the companies are promoting interoperability in the storage industry.
The Compaq StorageWorks Enterprise Backup Solution is a Fibre Channel data protection solution that leverages customer's existing investments in servers and tape libraries while introducing an Open SAN infrastructure to enable consolidated, shared storage, increased performance and lower management costs.
"Storage is one of the highest-growth markets for 2001, and Compaq is wise to turn to Tivoli for the storage management software needs of its customers as it pushes into the high-end," said Michael Karp, director of Storage Strategies for Hurwitz Group, Framingham, MA. "As data integrity becomes more vital, enterprises must manage their storage area networks at least as efficiently as they now manage their LANs."
"The Tivoli open-systems storage vision is built on providing best-of-breed, pre-tested and configured storage management solutions that our customers can deploy with confidence," said Jose Iglesias, vice president, storage management, Tivoli enterprise solutions group. "Compaq storage customers will benefit from the functionality and reliability that Tivoli Storage Manager brings to their installation."
"Compaq StorageWorks Enterprise Backup Solution customers will receive the performance and connectivity benefits of storage area networks in their existing heterogeneous environments with Tivoli Storage Manager," said Rusty Smith, director, Nearline Storage, Compaq. "Customers can tap into open, standards-based storage solutions that work with a multitude of vendor's products."
Tivoli Storage Manager v. 4.1.1 features include automated network backup, tape resource sharing, network-free rapid data recovery, LAN-free and multi-threaded data transfer and adaptive differencing technology. The patented adaptive differencing technology is of particular benefit to today's mobile users, who feel the frustration of bandwidth bottlenecks when trying to perform critical backup and recovery of their remote computing devices.
