The Consumer Electronics Association, organizer and host of the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES), today awarded the show's top honor, "Best of Show" for the Home Data Networking category, to 2Wire, Inc. (www.2Wire.com) for the new 2Wire HomePortal(TM) 1500W wireless residential gateway. In addition to Best of Show, 2Wire also received CES 2001 Innovations honors for the new 2Wire ICS 2000 integrated communication system and the 2Wire PC Port.
"We're very pleased to be recognized by the consumer electronics industry for our continued product innovation," said Brian Hinman, president and CEO of 2Wire. "These awards reflect 2Wire's dedication to delivering high-performance products that provide consumers with a simple, flexible way to leverage their broadband connection to take full advantage of both existing and forthcoming services that broadband enables."
Best of Show for Home Data Networking category -- 2Wire's HomePortal 1500W
2Wire's HomePortal 1500W wireless residential gateway is the first to support every major type of networking for home and office environments. By supporting all popular types of home networking technologies, including IEEE 802.11b wireless, Home Phoneline Networking (HPNA), Ethernet and USB, the HomePortal 1500W provides ultimate flexibility for users by allowing them to choose their preferred methods of sharing Internet access.
The HomePortal 1500W is an ideal solution for those users who need to network multiple computers and share a common broadband ADSL connection. With a built-in ADSL modem and an integrated business-grade firewall for maximum security, the HomePortal 1500W distributes high-speed Internet access around the home and protects computers from hacker attacks. The HomePortal 1500W also extends support for IPSec pass-through for corporate VPN access for telecommuters.
Innovations 2001 -- 2Wire's ICS 2000
The 2Wire ICS 2000 integrated communication system is the first complete DSL voice and data networking solution for home, home office and small business environments. Easy to install and use, it enables telephone and data services to be delivered simultaneously over a single DSL connection to multiple networked devices, including PCs and telephones, anywhere in the home over the home's existing phone lines.
The 2Wire ICS 2000 delivers data and voice connectivity by providing high-speed Internet access, regular telephone service and Voice over DSL (Voice over IP and/or Voice over ATM) simultaneously, with seamless aggregation of these different types of service to reduce complexity for the user. A key benefit of the ICS 2000 is the capability to add virtual phone lines, without installing new wiring. Each of these virtual phone lines can then be associated with a particular phone or to multiple phones anywhere in the home or office. It also enables an entirely new class of enhanced services for the consumer by leveraging telephone services available to consumers today through their telephone company, including Caller ID, Call Waiting and voicemail.
Innovations 2001 -- 2Wire's PC Port
The 2Wire PC Port is a high-speed USB-based adapter that enables users to easily share broadband access with multiple PCs over a home's existing telephone wiring. By simply plugging one end of the 2Wire PC Port into the external USB port of a PC and the other end of the PC Port into a standard telephone jack, users can create a home phoneline network using existing telephone wiring to share a high-speed Internet connection and data across multiple PCs throughout their home. Used in conjunction with 2Wire's HomePortal residential gateway, the PC Port enables multiple users to share a secure home network and broadband Internet access over DSL at speeds of up to 8,000 kbps -- 140 times faster than a 56 kbps modem.
