LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 6, 2001
DigMedia today unveiled DigKiosk(TM), a free-standing interactive retail music gateway that allows consumers to sample promotional music, purchase music in MP3 and CD format, transfer MP3s to their portable MP3 players (like DigMedia's SoulMate), access dLocker (a branded virtual storage by DigMedia) and forward songs to their friends.
All of this can be accomplished without a PC at locations anywhere in the world.
"DigKiosk will offer retail consumers new methods and venues for high-speed downloading of digital music," said Pedro Vargas, a former 12-year business development veteran with Intel and current Chairman and CTO of DigMedia. "The presence of these user-friendly, self-service kiosks in retail outlets, shopping malls or any public area will make them a universally popular platform, as well as an economic vehicle to increase traffic and revenues."
For the millions of consumers currently using MP3 technology, DigKiosk will prove irresistible. Aside from its ease of use for traditional music consumption, DigKiosk also allows music to be sent to and stored in secure, personalized digital lockers (DigMedia's dLocker). For those experimenting with MP3s, or who simply want to sample new music, DigKiosk is the perfect starting point.
To utilize DigKiosk, consumers employ a simple finger touch selection system that displays, samples and downloads the wide selection of Web-based music. Headphones are worn to listen to tracks and a docking station offers high-speed transfer of music from the kiosk to a portable MP3 player.
"DigKiosk is yet another way that DigMedia helps media companies and consumer brands to leverage consumer relationships through digital music access," continued Vargas. "Sampling, downloading and purchasing music can now be accomplished anywhere -- not just at music outlets or through one's computer. Currently, we are rolling out trial sites through a major retail partner."
