P-64 WEB System Offers Service Providers and Systems
Integrators New Point-to-Point Platform for Easy
Creation of Transparent LAN Services
Redline Communications Inc. of Markham and the CAIL of Markham have demonstrated a Wireless Ethernet Bridge (WEB) point-to-point access product, which had been under development for the past two years.
The P-64 WEB provides 64 Mb/s connectivity between two Ethernet ports over distances of up to 10 Km. Its always-on symmetric access capability makes it ideal for bridging between network ports carrying intensive voice, video and data traffic, for backhaul applications and public safety system infrastructure extensions. The WEB requires no spectrum license and operates in the newly allocated Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure (U-NII) bands of 5.2-5.3 GHz and 5.7-5.8 GHz.
"The P-64 WEB offers fast, low-interference wireless connections, many enterprises will adopt this system in place of wireline alternatives for campus and metropolitan area networks," commented Matt Parmaks, vice president, CAIL.
"The anticipated proliferation of devices in the newly allocated frequency bands, including fixed wireless broadband access, makes it essential for new systems to stress robustness to interference from other users and flexibility in the use of the spectrum. The P-64 WEB system was engineered with these requirements in mind," commented Mihnea (Mike) Moldoveanu, founder and chief technical officer of Redline Communications Inc.
"It is important to avoid the pitfalls of spectrum sharing and interference that have plagued wireless LAN products in the past. The value Redline provides to this market is the ability to effectively cohabitate with other devices using wireless protocols."
The P-64 WEB system, developed by Redline Communications, uses advanced digital modulation schemes and highly directive antennas to mitigate interference with and from other users in the same band. Its directive antennas increase its immunity to omni-directional or wide-beamwidth interferers, such as those who are using the same bands for wireless LAN applications. Several P-64 WEB access points can be co-located in the same frequency bands, and the ability to tune these systems makes it possible to avoid other transmitters in the same frequency spectrum.
"I am very pleased to see our vision become a reality. This product platform is the first phase in Redline's plan to develop a family of standards-based wireless solutions that will step ahead of the proprietary technology associated with the wireless industry recently," said Dave White, president and CEO, Redline Communications Inc. "Additionally, the enthusiastic response we've received from both enterprise customers and competitive carriers confirms our initial market positioning."
Pricing and Availability
The P-64 WEB will be priced starting at $9,995 per link. The product is in beta test now, with general availability in Q4 2001.
