Prince Fans Sound Off On Warner Bros. 'The Very Best of Prince' CD; Prince's NPG Music Club Flooded with Messages From Angry Fans

MINNEAPOLIS--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--July 13, 2001

Prince fans around the globe are expressing their outrage at a "Best of Prince" album Warner Bros. is releasing on July 31st.

Upon word that a compilation CD of all previously-recorded material was being released and that Prince, the creator of the music, will make virtually no money from the album, fans flooded with their opinions. While Prince has no comment, the NPG Music Club has created an online arena where people can post their reactions:

Of course this is just one more attempt by Time Warner to ride on the coat tales of Prince's success. --Karen Briggs

What's the point? Not only do most of us already own the original warner brother's albums, but most of us also already own the much-more thorough original Hits release, complete with a disc of b-sides. Warner's is just trying to milk what product they have for us much as they can get from it. Meanwhile, an abundance of new music is available through the NPG MUSIC CLUB. --Anonymous

Warner Bros, by you doing this, it only shows that you have no integrity, ethics, or dignity to what was once a part of you. You just want to cash in on my brother because you know that he is the real deal. I think its typical of corporate America to continue to hold captive, control and use the work of its citizens for their benefit and gain. One would hope to think that after all this time and circumstances, Warner's would either present Prince with his masters, offer some agreement on release of this material in their possession or execute enough respect and leave them be. --Anonymous
