JUPITER, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 23, 2001
Cyber Operations (Cyops), a technology research and development company, announced today the appointment of Internet and advertising industry veteran Bill Townsend to the new position of Chief Marketing Officer.
Townsend has more than 10 years of experience in bringing high technology companies from the critical start-up phase through successful Initial Public Offerings or acquisitions. Prior to joining Cyber Operations, Townsend merged CommonPlaces, which he co-founded, with Network Event Theater, to create YouthStream Media Networks (Nasdaq:YSTM). Part of the founding management team of Lycos (Nasdaq:TRLY), one of the world's top-five Web properties, Townsend is a seasoned pioneer with a proven track record in the high technology industry.
Townsend will be involved in the positioning and sale of Cyops' technologies to commercial entities around the world. During his career, Townsend has spearheaded strategic alliances, partnerships and marketing deals with leading companies including Microsoft, IBM, Sony, AOL, Oracle, AT&T, Yahoo!, Excite, Netscape, Dell Computer and others.
"We are excited to have Bill Townsend join our team. His strategic vision and knowledge of the technology markets is a great addition to Cyber Operations as we move our four proprietary technologies for sale to the commercial markets," said Jame' Groves, Vice President of Cyber Operations. "Each product brings market-dominating technology to their respective industries while affording a broad spectrum of global commercial applications. All four products are currently being positioned for 'commercial exploitation' and Bill's experience in working with leading technology firms will be invaluable."
"Having been on the cutting edge of technology for the past decade, I've seen many exciting concepts that never came to fruition," said Townsend. "Cyber Operations' strategy was to maintain stealth operations in order to strike at the core of key market sectors such as optical networking, data compression, multimedia distribution, and other areas without making early announcements that propagate hype rather than substance. I am convinced Cyber Operations' technologies will greatly impact and revolutionize multiple industries at a time when business dynamics require companies to invest in technologies that will have an immediate impact on driving profitability and market leadership."
