DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 24, 2001
"PowerTier Add-Ins For Rational Rose" Accelerates and Simplifies
Development of High-Performance, Sophisticated J2EE Applications
Persistence(R) Software, Inc. (Nasdaq:PRSW) today announced that it has integrated Rational Rose(R), the industry leading object modeling tool from Rational Software (Nasdaq:RATL), with its PowerTier application development and deployment platform for applications requiring extreme scaling and rapid response. PowerTier Add-Ins For Rational Rose (PAR) dramatically cuts development time of Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) compatible applications by completely automating the creation of Enterprise Java Beans(TM) (EJBs) that take advantage of Persistence's Distributed Dynamic Caching(TM) for maximum performance and availability. In an internal study of PowerTier customers, PAR reduced overall development time by an average of 35%, allowing PowerTier users to increase productivity and reduce time to market.
"Rational Rose is the accepted tool for object modeling, and PAR automatically generates 100% of the data access code for J2EE developers," said Christopher Keene, Persistence CEO. "This seamless integration increases programmer velocity by letting PowerTier users concentrate on the business logic of their applications rather than the difficult problem of how to connect an object-oriented application to a relational database."
"PowerTier aids in developing J2EE compliant applications that require extreme scaling and rapid response," said David Abelow, Director of Field Enablement and Alliance Marketing for Rational Software. "The integration of PowerTier and Rational Rose provides developers with a leap in productivity in producing J2EE applications from UML models in Rational Rose."
PAR generates 100% of the data access EJBs, allowing developers using PowerTier to build applications with a fraction of the hand-coding required by competing development environments. A study by ASEG, a software development and systems engineering consultancy, found that PowerTier's code generation capability resulted in 73% fewer lines of handwritten code necessary to implement an EJB-based equities trading system benchmark, when compared to the amount of handwritten code required by the leading application server. In fact, PowerTier generated more than 93% of the application code.
Persistence has for the last decade been a leader in accelerated enterprise application development with its patented Object-Relational mapping and automatic code generation. Its seamless integration with Rational Rose gives developers even more freedom and efficiency with J2EE applications, allowing them to take full advantage of Persistence's patented Distributed Dynamic Caching. For globally distributed sites and applications requiring data synchronization, more than 100 simultaneous users, or sub-second response times, PowerTier maximizes performance and availability while minimizing the need for additional hardware infrastructure.
About the Rational User Conference
The Rational User Conference offers technical insight and tactical knowledge to better equip the Rational Software development community with industry-proven tools, services and best practices. At the 4th annual conference July 22-26, 2001 in Denver, Colo., attendees have created their agenda from more than 200 technical sessions covering 10 tracks on topics spanning the development lifecycle. Industry experts and Rational engineers introduce attendees to the power of integrating requirements management, visual modeling, configuration and change management and automated testing into their current software development strategy. Focusing on the entire software development lifecycle, the annual conference offers crucial product and industry insight for every member of the development team.
