HERNDON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 27, 2001
Inter.net U.S. Ltd. today announced the addition of several network suppliers for the purposes of improving customer service levels and expanding coverage across the United States.
The move marks the end of its supplier relationship with its primary US provider, and former parent company, PSINet. A management team led by co-CEO's Kurt Baumann and David Browning previously purchased Inter.net from PSINet on March 1, 2001.
"PSINet's decision to discontinue their wholesale business provided an opportunity for us to capitalize on our other underutilized carrier relationships. With our new carriers, we now have expanded coverage in most of our existing areas in addition to having markets where we previously had no presence", said Inter.net US president Eric Lunn. "With these changes, our customers can expect to see better service almost immediately."
In addition to its stable of backbone carriers, Inter.net also purchased four points of presence (POP's) from PSINet. "These are primarily in underserved communities in Oklahoma and Alabama, where customers have been loyal to us for years. This infrastructure investment demonstrates a high level of commitment to these communities", Lunn added.
With the addition of the providers, Inter.net will double its points of presence (POPs) to about 1500 in the U.S. enabling it to serve all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Ivan Wong, Inter.net Director of Marketing, said "The first order of business has been notifying our customers of the imminent change to their dial-up numbers. PSINet is turning off their numbers on July 31. We've been contacting customers by email, phone and letters and offering 24x7 toll free assistance."
A key piece of the changeover strategy is the Inter.net DialCenter, an innovative dialer software that automatically updates the user's phone book as access numbers are added or changed. Where there are multiple numbers serving a local area, the DialCenter automatically selects which number to use based on call completion history.
Inter.net has operations in North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia and serves nearly 600,000 customers worldwide. Inter.net provides customers with quality dial-up and broadband Internet access, integrated tools (email, chat, instant messaging, etc.) and localized content via country specific portals.
