LUND, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 3, 2001
SwitchCore AB (publ), developers of integrated switching devices for data and Internet communications, today announced that Alloptic, Inc., the leading provider of IP, Gigabit Ethernet fiber optic solutions for access networks, has selected SwitchCore's CXE family of integrated switches/routers to build their high-port density optical network units.
Alloptic's leading edge solution provides IP/Ethernet point-to-multipoint network and point-to-point high-speed local access. Compared to incumbent asynchronous transfer mode technology, Ethernet provides a much more cost-effective solution with significantly greater operational efficiency. When combined with the Quality of Service (QOS) features available with SwitchCore's CXE architecture, Ethernet provides the enhanced features and services that service providers need to differentiate themselves.
"The Alloptic solution takes advantage of the high port density offered by SwitchCore's CXE 1000 and CXE 16 switches, as well as their advanced Quality of Service features for the classification, filtering and bandwidth management demanded in fiber-to-the-x (home, curb, business) applications," said Mr. Thomas Engdahl, Alloptic's President and CEO. "The Quality of Service features in SwitchCore's offering, coupled with our Gigabit Ethernet solution, allows network providers to deliver next generation value-added services, such as high speed data, voice and video, to their subscribers, today!"
"SwitchCore's silicon, combining high port density and advanced QOS, fit the need for Alloptic's platform, with silicon sitting in the control switch, Optical Line Terminator (OLT, found in the chassis at the central office/headend) and in the Optical Network Units (ONU, found at the curb, home, or business)," said Nitish Amin, VP of Business Development and Sales. "This provides SwitchCore the opportunity to sell up to hundreds of chips per individual system."
The market for metro area networking equipment, including the edge and last mile equipment market Alloptic plays in, will reach $17.2 B in 2003 in North America, showing 175% growth over the year 2000. Source: Infonetics Research.
