LOS ANGELES & NAMPA, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 2001
Gores Technology Group (GTG) today announced that it had completed the acquisition of MicronPC from Micron Electronics, Inc. (Nasdaq:MUEI). GTG is a leading privately held international acquisition and management company. MicronPC, a world-class manufacturer of computer products and services, will remain headquartered in Nampa, Idaho.
James Bailey, Group President of GTG, said Micron PC management will make a number of strategic changes to the organization now that the acquisition is complete. "The goal," he stated, "is to achieve lasting viability and profitability. MicronPC will take advantage of being a smaller market-segment focused company. We intend to eliminate redundancies and inefficiencies that have burdened the company in the past."

Mr. Bailey said that Mike Adkins, Division President, MicronPC Direct, will lead the new company as president and CEO of MicronPC, LLC. According to Mr. Adkins, "It is MicronPC's goal to operate a strong, profitable business that provides superb computing products, with outstanding service and support to select segments of the industry -- segments where we have recent and proven points of success. The new MicronPC will continue to be a significant player in the PC industry among the direct-model players."
"While we recognize that there are significant challenges yet ahead of us, we are very excited about what we believe is the potential of this business under Mike Adkins' leadership," Mr. Bailey said.
Mr. Adkins added, "I am extremely pleased with the opportunity that GTG has provided to MicronPC. Gores Technology has an impressive record of success in working with management to maximize the potential of their portfolio businesses. The job they have done with The Learning Company is the stuff that textbooks are made of. I have little doubt that, under GTG's ownership, MicronPC will once again be a strong, profitable business and a competitive player in the PC industry. I know I speak for everyone at MicronPC when I say we are grateful for this opportunity to work with them and show the computing world what we can do."
