Proxim and Motorola Deepen Relationship to Enable New Broadband

Services and Expand Consumer Choice

Proxim Inc. (Nasdaq:PROX), the pioneer in wireless broadband networking, today announced that it has agreed to extend its long-term relationship with Motorola (NYSE:MOT) Broadband Communications Sector. As part of this ongoing relationship, Motorola will continue integrating Proxim's HomeRF 2.0 technology into its high-speed cable modems and IP-based Home Networking gateways and will leverage Proxim's technology into Motorola's high-end digital set-top solutions. Additionally, Motorola plans to continue offering Proxim's HomeRF-based USB and PC cards and Ethernet gateway under its private label.

This announcement signals the ongoing commitment of both companies to developing HomeRF-based products that enable broadband service providers to offer consumers new ways to leverage the broadband experience.

"Our three-year relationship with Proxim has reaped state-of-the-art wireless products based on the HomeRF standard -- products that are significantly impacting the way we live and interact with each other and our surroundings," said Dan Moloney, senior vice president and general manager of Motorola's IP Systems Group. "High-speed Internet access coupled with wireless home networking technology can enable people to connect both their internal and outside worlds via their PCs, TVs and other household electronic devices -- and experience expanded entertainment, communication and productivity services. The solutions resulting from our renewed relationship with Proxim will provide network operators the tools to offer these exciting services to subscribers, which in turn can accelerate broadband adoption."

Motorola's cable modems offer affordable access to the Internet at speeds up to 100 times faster than traditional phone modems, without tying up phone or cable TV lines. With the addition of Proxim's HomeRF technology, Motorola cable modem users also can enjoy the freedom of wireless access to the Web, saving the time and cost of wiring and giving laptop users the freedom to move about the house, and even out to the garden, as they use the Internet. The HomeRF standard is easy to install, more secure than other wireless standards, reliable and affordable.

Motorola's Home Gateway platforms allow for wireless and wired connectivity to homes that already have a broadband access device but require the benefits of the home network. These devices provide the shared broadband experience anywhere inside and around the home.

"Working together, Motorola and Proxim are delivering solutions that will move the broadband service delivery process to the next level," said David C. King, Chairman, President and CEO at Proxim. "Leveraging our respective expertise, we are developing innovative, consumer-friendly solutions that will allow broadband service providers to expand beyond traditional Internet connectivity services by providing simultaneous data, voice and entertainment services anywhere in the home."

Proxim and Motorola will be demonstrating the new streaming media capabilities of the HomeRF 2.0 technology at the National Cable Telecommunications Association's (NCTA) Cable 2001 Annual Convention and Exposition, (June 11-13, Chicago, IL, McCormick Place Convention Center) at Proxim's Booth No. 3352 and Motorola's Booth No. 1700.
