ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 13, 2001
SAP (NYSE:SAP) today announced that Acterna (Nasdaq:ACTR) has chosen mySAP.com(R) as its global e-business platform in an agreement that also includes application hosting and professional services.
Acterna is the world's largest provider of test and management solutions for optical transport, access and cable networks and the second largest communications test company overall; SAP is the world's leading provider of e-business software solutions. The announcement was made at SAPPHIRE(R), SAP's international e-business conference being held in Orlando, Fla., June 12-15.
"Acterna's solid commitment to a successful future in e-business is truly exciting," said Wolfgang Kemna, chief executive officer, SAP America, Inc. and a member of the extended management board of SAP AG. "SAP is very proud to be selected as Acterna's primary vendor to provide software solutions, hosting and professional services. The combination of these resources will enable Acterna to collaborate with its supply network, integrate strategic information, and empower its employees for efficient and profitable e-business."
mySAP.com E-Business Solutions
Acterna will implement a wide range of the mySAP.com family of solutions, including mySAP(TM) Customer Relationship Management (mySAP CRM), mySAP(TM) Supply Chain Management (mySAP SCM), SAP Portals' Enterprise Collaboration Portal(TM), mySAP(TM) Business Intelligence (mySAP BI) and mySAP(TM) Financials. The communications test company also will leverage the industry-specific functionality of SAP's high-tech solution, mySAP(TM) High Tech.
The first phase of Acterna's e-business strategy will be the implementation of mySAP CRM, which will tightly integrate with SAP's supply chain management, business intelligence and other mySAP.com solutions for maximum value in managing customer relationships. mySAP CRM will provide Acterna with customer-centric solutions to help plan, build and maintain profitable relationships with the services and communications industry companies it serves.
"We selected SAP as our e-business vendor because of the comprehensive CRM/ERP functionality and the enterprise integration that it brings," said Dave Bent, chief information officer, Acterna. "This new initiative will create a more integrated and robust technology platform that enhances Acterna's global capabilities and competitiveness in the test industry."
Application Hosting Environment
Acterna will utilize Application Hosting from SAP, minimizing upfront investment for infrastructure utilizing a predictable monthly pricing model and allowing the company to focus on its core competencies. This hosted delivery format from SAP Hosting will speed the deployment of mySAP.com solutions to help Acterna replace disparate legacy systems and to more effectively communicate with customers, suppliers and employees. Under the hosted delivery model, SAP will maintain and operate the e-business platform and software, thus reducing the cost of implementation and operations. Hewlett-Packard Co., a Preferred Data Center Provider for SAP Hosting, will provide data center services.
"mySAP(TM) Hosted Solutions played an important role in our decision to choose SAP," Bent said. "The scalability and value of SAP's hosting solution will enable us to run and grow our business by leveraging what SAP does best: operate and maintain software applications."
Professional Services
Acterna will enlist the SAP Professional Services Organization for business consulting, training, change management and collaborative learning to ensure that the company will receive maximum benefits and return on investment from mySAP.com. The company will use SAP's business solutions consulting to provide guidance in design of business solutions, project management and business improvement. The addition of these services will help Acterna efficiently implement collaborative e-business in the networked economy.
