PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 20, 2001
Tenzing Communications, Inc., a global ISP for the connected traveler, announced that it will deploy its inflight email and Web service across the entire Air Canada fleet of aircraft.
From November 2000 to May 2001, Air Canada participated in the first-ever commercial airline passenger trial of inflight email and Web content and, with enthusiastic passenger response, decided to implement the program fleet-wide.
Passengers during the trial were able to connect laptops to existing seat-back phones and send and receive email and surf selected Web content from 33,000 feet. The Tenzing system is installed on five aircraft used for the trial and will be rolled out across the remaining aircraft during 2002. The Air Canada fleet consists of more than 200 aircraft. Passengers can register for the service at the Air Canada Web site (www.aircanada.ca/tenzing) or using CDs available in the seat-back pockets on the plane.
"We are very pleased with the passenger response from our trial of the Tenzing services and are committed to continuing to expand the service throughout our fleet of aircraft," said Lise Fournel, Executive Vice President, Commercial for Air Canada. "We are dedicated to providing out passengers with the most complete inflight connectivity services and Tenzing is clearly the frontrunner in this industry."
"Tenzing provides both airlines and their passengers with most economic and comprehensive inflight connectivity service," said Alan Pellegrini, president of Tenzing Communications Inc. "We are pleased to be helping Air Canada's travelers make their flight more productive with access to email and Web content."
