CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 20, 2001
Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq:SYMC) today announced that Norton AntiVirus 2001 earned the World Class Award from PC World Magazine. Results of the publication's extensive research and testing were announced in the July 2001 edition of the magazine, a comprehensive buyers guide to the top-performing hardware and software products of the year. After careful evaluation, editors named Norton AntiVirus the Best Anti-Virus Solution of 2001.
The World Class Award is only one in a series of recent awards that PC World editors have given Norton AntiVirus. In April 2001, the software was named a "Must-Have" security solution for home and mobile PC users. A year earlier, it was designated a Best Buy. This month, in addition to receiving the PC World award, Norton AntiVirus earned its fifth consecutive Editor's Choice award from PC Magazine. Norton AntiVirus is also an integral component of Norton Internet Security and Norton SystemWorks, which also continues to outperform competitors, most recently earning the Editor's Choice designation from PC Magazine as well as from Fortune/CNET Technology Review.
"Symantec recognizes that PC users across the globe turn to PC World's annual 'Best-of' edition to help them make the most intelligent buying decisions," said Steve Cullen, senior vice president of Symantec's Consumer Product and Client Delivery. "As a result, we are honored and pleased that Norton AntiVirus remains PC World's recommended anti-virus solution, providing consumers the most usable, reliable, and powerful solutions to address the security issues they face both today and tomorrow."
PC World editors evaluated hundreds of products in 58 categories in order to determine the best products of 2001. According to reviewers, the criteria by which they judged the awards included performance, value, consistency, and innovation. "With one of the most extensive libraries of virus definitions available, Symantec's Norton AntiVirus 2001 adds a new layer of protection by scanning e-mail as you download it, before recognized viruses can cause trouble," reviewers wrote. "You can update virus definitions with a few clicks, so it's easy to keep your virus protection current."
Norton AntiVirus is the world's leading anti-virus software. Norton AntiVirus works in the background to protect systems, automatically sensing an open Internet connection, then checking, retrieving, and install available virus definition updates to ensure that users have the most up-to-date protection. It also scans e-mail attachments and files downloaded from the web. Norton AntiVirus is the only anti-virus product on the market that includes Script Blocking technology to proactively detect fast-moving script-based viruses such as the I Love You and Anna Kournikova viruses, without the need for virus definitions. With Script Blocking technology and automatic LiveUpdate, Norton AntiVirus users are uniquely protected against known and unknown virus threats.
